New pool owner trying to understand test strip reading

SWG should have a flow switch. When you have low flow it will turn the SWG off. Post some pictures of your pad.

Superflo is adjustable in 10 RPM increments, read the manual, you can manually lower the speed. You can also change your speeds/runtime for each of the 3 programs.

Great.

You did not list your heat pump in your equipment. List your heat pump in your signature. With a superflo you likely need to run ~2200 to get proper flo. Post the heat pump make/model and we can adjust from there.

I don't ever run "high," except to prime.
Thanks again. I plan to look through my pump manual this afternoon. So you would set it to run low for 24 hours. At 1400 rpm?

I don’t see a flow switch on my SWG. Just the less and more buttons. When I press the low a bunch of times ii think it goes to zero because I don’t see any green next to %. I think that means it’s off 🤷‍♂️

And I updated my signature line with my heat pump info

No. Post pictures of your equipment pad. Let's start there, then get you dialed in.

Thanks! Minimum flow on the HP is 30GPM. When you run your HP you need to run about 2200 RPM with a superflo pump.

I’m trying to get my wife to take a photo of it. But if not I’ll take one when I get home.

The whole pad so I can see all equipment.
Also, just tested an hour after putting 12 oz of liquid chlorine (12.5%) in. FC level is up to 3ppm now. So I am good to go for the overnight test tonight as long as it stays there over the next hour or so. I’ll leave the pump running until the sun goes down then go out and get one more water sample to make sure it stays at 3ppm when the sun is down.

Why does pool math say recommended is 1-3 for FC?
You still have it at 0 CYA. You should have some CYA eventhough we cant tell under 30. It might be 20.
What is FC recommended levels for SWG pool?
The same as any pool. To never come close to minimum for their CYA level. That daily target changes over the season. Mid season with more loss, either pool needs to add more FC to maintain the mission of staying above min FC. Then for the back half of the season daily demand slowly falls until its cold out and there is next to no daily demand.

For CT, 30 to 50 CYA is fine for now, 70 CYA is good for June July and Aug. You're probably losing 2 ppm a day right now and it will slowly increase to about 4ppm per day mid season. Because your SWG adds FC for your, your tell it to add 2ppm now and adjust on the fly as necessary. (Once we're done with this current project)

That all makes sense. I have the SWG set for 40% currently. Should that be lowered to 20% after we pass this overnight test.

Also on that chart you added. The one that came with my TF pro test kit. Had 60 cya in the green as well. Where is the chart you added from?

And when you say losing 4, 2, and 1ppm a day depends on when in the season you are. You mean chlorine ppm? If so, tue SWG is regenerating that to make it balanced again. Do I have that right?

Your CYA level dictates the recommended FC but we always run on the high side of that. My balanced pool is always kept around 8-9 ppm.
Makes sense. Forgot all about cya when I asked the question. Once I pass this overnight test and get my SWG set to the right % and get my pump schedule and RPMs set to a better schedule. Next, I’ll tackle alkalinity and stabilizer.
