They are evenly matched long term for cost/output. The RJ produces about 33% more for 33% more cost

The RJ has finer measurements. Imagine only being able to add gallons of bleach by 1/4 at a time, instead of 1/20 th at a time. If your choice is to over or under shoot with 1/4s, it adds up on the high side day after day.

Its not a deal breaker, I've had 20% adjustments for 13 years and still love the SWG, but I'd happily take the 5% adjustments.

In the peak of summer, I keep my CYA at 80-90 and keep my FC ~8. Always keep your FC at or above target FC for your given CYA. Stay far away from "minimum".

I moved from a shaded yard to a house with full sun a couple years ago so I was kinda a newb again. Last year i messed around with a 80 CYA, a 90 CYA and their appropriate targets seeing how it affected the SWG runtime. It was all a wash with 70 CYA.

Experiment and find your sweet spot.

According to Leslie test I’m at 94 cya. Was considering draining half my pool, but it seems with salt water it’s not needed anymore?

How do you lower your CYA in the winter, you drain part of your pool every year? Here water is very expensive.

Why not keep it at 60 and lower chlorine level

How are you testing your water? You really need to get a proper test kit. Without it we really can't give advice. Why? Pool store testing is notoriously wrong, if we gave advice based on wrong test results, we can do more damage than good.

Here are the recommended kits. Make sure you get a SALT version of the TFTestkits, or you need a K-1766 Salt test if you get the Taylor2006C Link-->Test Kits Compared

Why do you want to lower it in winter? CYA degrades over time ~5-10 per month.. Certainly here, my CYA is close to 0 when I open.

With higher CYA, the pool will lose less FC. With lower losses, the cell doesn't have to make as much FC. Not making as much FC, the cell will last longer.

Once you get FC to the level you want and it is per the FC/CYA Levels, then the SWCG is just replacing the daily loss due to UV, bather load, etc. So it does not affect the performance of the SWCG.
You do not want to have CYA at 90 if you have to SLAM. That is why many of us run at the upper range for a given CYA value. This minimizes the risk.
CYA will slowly degrade over time and with any water replacement you may see CYA values decline over time That is why you should test CYA as least monthly to ensure the current level.
