Hey all,

My 3 year old PD270 pool pump just stopped working today, it has nothing showing on the display as if it has no power, but I have checked with multimeter and there is indeed power on both lines of my 240V feed... anything else simple I can check before seeing about a warranty replacement? Is there a fuse under the control panel perhaps?

Thanks...James

That motor in that pump is the Nidec Neptune 270. If there is proper power at the L1 and L2 (240V) and it doesn't light up, the drive has probably been damaged. Did you have a power loss/surge?

As with all variable-speed motors, the drive is the most expensive of the two parts. Fortunately, the replacement cost of that entire motor is less than the replacement cost of the drive of the other major manufacturer's motors.

That is one reason I recommend that Waterway pump (or the Calimar) first unless automation is involved. The fact that the entire pump usually costs less that any of the "big 3" brands doesn't hurt either.

Thanks... I was afraid that might be the case... there could have been a surge I suspect, as I came outside at lunchtime today and noticed my pump wasnt running... I went inside to check my breaker panel and I did have a breaker tripped and it would not reset (20+ years old) ... so went to the hardware store, got a new breaker, installed and restored power to my pool pad equipment, but now pump is dead... other equipment is working (pool pump for water feature, blower for hot tub, etc) ...

Similar problem and recent

We contacted support at Waterway and they sent a short video showing to unplug and re-plug a connector while the unit has power, and this has worked. Happy to report the pump and controller are just fine, nothing is broken or damaged.
Pretty scary that they have people working around live power unplugging things and then plugging back in.

Contact Waterway and ask if there is a safer method.

Is there 240 line to line?

You cannot check each line to ground; you have to check line to line.
Good call JamesW! Turns out my filter pump relay in the aqualink control panel was bad... it was letting some current thru, but not the full 240V... I had a spare on hand, replaced and now all is well again!! Here's a couple pics for anyone needing reference...

Thanks JamesW, U Da Man!!!
