I’ve had a pool in my homes since I was 10, I’m now 48.
All have been SWG based with either a cartridge or sand filter (Apparently DE is banned in Australia due to carcinogens).
The amount of time, and countless thousands I’ve spent at the various pool shops, I can only imagine. Every second or third weekend I’d say.

The things I’ve been told by pool store clerks blows my mind. My favourite being that the build up on the SWG cell is calcium and it collects there because the plates vibrate with the flow of water.

This site has allowed me to firstly understand the water chemistry and the chemical interactions that are poorly explained, if at all, by shops or paid pool men.
Secondly, it’s allowed me to tame the green beast that has been bane of my existence since its install 5 years ago.

I’ve just successfully completed my first SLAM and can honestly say I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pool as clear, or as nice to be in as mine is now, after just a week.
I thought it was done at day 5 but it kept getting clearer and clearer.

I am shunning the pool shops ‘service’ from now, using them only to purchase acid, salt and liquid chlorine and will ignore everything they say.

They don’t know.
Not like you knew, and I now do.

I will be spruiking this site and it’s methodology to anyone with a pool that’ll listen from now on.

Thanks to everyone involved, honestly.
Every question I’ve had, I found the answers here already asked and addressed by someone else.
I’m hoping for a truely trouble free pool from here on out.
To say thanks I’ve chucked in some pics of the Kangaroos that hang out in my backyard every day next to the pool.

Cheers
Adam

Hey G1 and Welcome !!!

I myself fell victim to the game, and I still can't understand how the thought never crossed my mind. I would never in a million years pull my car into the dealer or a Spiffy Lube looking confused and write them a blank check to check it all out. But I did with the pool, even knowing deep down that they existed to make sales. I was too stubborn to admit it to myself and I fell for it like everyone else, while snickering about all the other places I'd never go.

Misery loves company, so you'll get a kick out of this thread :

I keep my dogs claws trimmed to reduce damaging the liner. Your dogs look to be a bit harder to manage in that respect.

(Yes, me too - 30 yr pool owner, who was aware of TFT years ago, but only drank the Kool-Aid a few back. Oh the time and fortune wasted....)

Welcome and NICE JOB! You are close to being able to post in this thread:
How Clear is TFP Clear?

Now lets talk about your friends hanging out in the yard! Are they tame at all? Do you feed them? Do they cause any problems?
Hi Kim,
Definitely not tame. Big Daddy Bruce (not pictured) stands about 6’6 and has pecs and biceps to be jealous of.
They don’t really cause problems, they run through fences, and my 8yo is a little frightened of them though.
I put rolled outs for the cacophony of animals that also live here, it’s mostly the birds and smaller mammals that eat that.

I’ve added a pic of Bruce, there’s one of a Quenda (small wallaby) and a couple of the more special birds (splendid fairy wren, hawk).
All pics taken on my property 22 minutes from the CBD.

I don’t think I’d want to try cutting these guys claws. Probably need a 9’ grinder.

I worked with a guy, here in New Jersey, that had a pet wallaby. Around him and his family it was OK. It used to sit on the couch with him and watch TV. But they are anything but tame, and even the smaller wallabies can do some damage to a person with their claws.

People forget. A full size kangaroo can eviscerate you in the bling of an eye. Wallaby’s and wombats have massive claws for digging, Koala have claws and most have syphilis. Then the snakes, spiders and scorpions. Not to mention sharks, poisonous marine life, and don’t forget the weather. 3 out of 4 aussies will get skin cancer in their life. I currently have 3 being watched.
Everything here is out to get you.
This sign sort of sums up the beach dangers pretty well I think. It’s from the Margaret river region.

they run through fences,
Bet that gets to be a pain after a while! So they just go THROUGH it instead of over it?

splendid fairy wren,
Look at that vibrant color!!! I can see why they are called "splendid"! Does not even look real!
