Fighting a green pool for 2 years now

I took the steps and weights out about 2 weeks ago. The steps had a lot of water in them and it was nasty. It made sense why it was so hard to get it back to normal before. I need to buy some steps that dont take on water. Any suggestions?
There aren’t any or they would just float lol 😂
The key is making them have good flow & having sealed weights.
post a pic of what you have we can help you with modifying them if necessary

My wife was using water bladders with sand in them. When I pulled those out I noticed they had taken on water. I plan on using a 3" PVC pipe filled with cement or sand and capped at both ends, glued obviously.

For reference these are my steps- i have drilled lots of extra holes to assist with water flow and to allow me to get a bottle brush up in the crannies of them on a regular basis. It took several attempts to end up with a sufficient amount of holes it seems.

I pull them out at the beginning and end of season to scrub them on the inside & clean the floor/wall below really well.
They live in the pool over the winter so these intervals coincide with me removing & replacing the hand rail.
During the season I blast them with the hose when i fill the pool and finagle my brush through the big hole in the step to get underneath. Along with being on #teamRunHot lol 😂 I keep my fc no lower than 10% of my cya level at all times.

I don’t have an intricate egress system; just a simple ladder. It’s just simply amazing where algae hides, though. I have it screwed into the deck so I have no problems with floating steps with awkward air or water reservoirs. Not as pretty as the stairs but far easier. 😜

I had mine screwed down to the deck also, but also used the bladders full of sand. Do you know what model or manufacturer of stairs you have?

I cut off the backside to attach to the deck. The rungs slide on and off in a track, and that’s the only place where algae isn’t immediately visible. Rungs slide out easily.

For added stability I bolted the frame to the platform by using three 1.5” bolts with lock washers/side. The ladder came with the pool.

Just wanted to update ya'll. I'm glad to say that before we closed the pool we got the water clear. It took about 6 weeks, several filter cleanings, daily vacuuming/brushing, checking the chlorine level at least 3 times a day, and about 40 gallons of liquid chlorine. Looking forward to opening it up in late spring. Thanks for all of your help, you guys are awesome.
