We're getting pretty inundated here on Florida's west coast. I have a new rule of thumb... Any time I've had enough rain that I need to drain the pool, I drain it and add a gallon of chlorine. I know I should do a full test, etc., but with this much rain I'm not going to carefully balance the water anyway (and then drain the new chemicals away with the next flood). The gallon just helps the swg keep up, and helps with whatever gunk is coming in with the rainwater. This weekend is going to be dryer, and I'll do a full-up test and chemical adjustment.

I do the same thing and will sometimes add liquid chlorine in the middle of a storm since, if it rains heavily, my pool will start to get some runoff from the lawn into it. I want to nip that in the bud. I'll give the salt cell a few days' vacation if it rains nonstop like it did last weekend before adding anything and immediately draining it out.

My pool is higher than the yard, so overflows into the yard. I'm running the swg, but will probably need to add salt, muriatic acid, and cya after I test. I think the chlorine will be ok. Pool is crystal clear with TFP sparkle, which is usually an indication of FC being in the good range.

Pool is crystal clear with TFP sparkle

Thats the key I look for. The moment the sparkle is gone that is an indication something is off. Your approach of just dumping a gallon of chlorine after a big rain is a big part of keeping that. Nothing wrong with running FC hot.

I get to see what happens when I get home today after being on the road for two weeks. FC was 16 before I left. I also bumped CYA to around 90. As long as all the rain did not throw a low salt indicator on the SWG I should be fine. But I think there has been about 10 inches of rain since I left so it’s a bit of a gamble. Should be interesting to see the test results.

I could never get my automation to talk to my SWG so I have no idea what the salt level is. I am also planning on switching to a Circupool RJ60 but that does not have any automation options either.

I also need a way to dump a bag of salt in the pool remotely. That one might be hard to do.
