Why are my reading so much different (lower almost always) than Leslies? I'm 99% more trusting the tf100 readings it's not rocket science to do correctly. I'm guessing its just a total coincidence that their reading require me to buy more Crud. I cant imagine that Leslies never calibrates their equipment but maybe so.

Pool stores exist to sell their products. This forum exists to teach how to keep a pool sanitized correctly without a pool store and it's products. The readings from your test kit will tell you and us all we need to know about your water and what to do with it. Plan on liquid chlorine and muriatic acid to be your friends with a little bit of a couple more items only when truly needed. Read through the pool school and all of its topics to learn how to do this yourself. I, like most of us here, have come from the pool store environment.

Or do they. 🤔

Nothing says it would be calibrated to be right. :laughblue:

But yeah. It ain't no free test. It's a $78 test this time and a $139 test next time.

I'll send all the readings later but yes after draining and refilling I use nothing but liquid chlorine and muriatic acid. Prior to that the manager at the pool store told me to float pucs in 2 floaters and keep them full and thats all I need. No more pucs here.

FC - 4.5
CC - 4.5 (CC is the same as total chlorine?)
CYA - 40
PH - 7.2
TA - 58
CH - 160

I'm pretty happy overall. New sand when I drained it last month. Also when I drained it I pressure washed the whole thing. DX3 is awesome compared to the suction cleaners. Now 100% of the suction goes to the skimmer.

Sorry I'm still getting the terminology correct. Next time I test I'll pay attention to that. I just looked I didnt continue the FC test down to the CC part apparently.

FC is 7.5 and TC is 7.5 so I guess that would be a zero for CC? I'll test all that again in a bit and do the CC part.

Just do FC and CC, TC means nothing.

Your FC is a bit low. Always follow this for FC..Link-->FC/CYA Levels

How did you come up with a TA of 58? That's not from a drop test...How did you do that test?

I just did the TA test again. I got 8 drop when it turned red and it says x10 so 80. Unless im doing something wrong. I really dont want to add anything that I cant get rid of till im sure.

25ml of pool water, 2 drops r0007 mix, 5 drops r0008 mix, one drop at a time r0009 till it turns red.

actually thats exactly what I did because I thought it might get "redder". It went from clear to green to clear to red. So is the TA so low I should get something to increase it or leave it and it might increase on its own?

Raise your CH to 200. You need at least 200. I would not raise higher. It is very likely that your fill water is high CH (all them out there are in AZ). Test your fill water CH.

I would raise your CYA to 60.
The sun out there is going to eat your FC alive. Use the sock method.

When the CYA is in the sock in the pool, chlorinate for 60 CYA. Always follow this...Link-->FC/CYA Levels

At CYA of 60, your target FC is 6-9. As you are learning you pool, I would keep it closer to 9. Dose it so that WHEN YOU TEST, your FC is in range. If you have to dose above range to be IN range when you test, do that.

TA target is 60-80. Your TA is fine. With a TA of 80, your pH should be fairly stable around 7.8-8.0. Don't try to drive your pH down lower, that will continue to lower TA. A pH of 7.8-8 is just fine. When you get above 8, lower to 7.8

More help:

Thanks for the help.

Im really paranoid about raising my cya since thats the reason the last several times that I've had to drain my pool.

One more question: When I switched to a variable speed pump from a 1hp fixed speed I was worried about the flow so I bought and installed a flow meter. Right now I run the pump 12 hours a day to turn the 18k over 2.2 times. Is this considered enough filtering when its 115 average temp out?
