Hello all,

I am doing some research for SWG and looking not willing to spend a lot of money.

My pool is 16x32 and approximately 20k gallons.

I had read many forums and a lot suggest that we purchase a system that is 1.5 to 2 times the volume of the pool.

Based on my pool specs, would the pentair 30G work? Any thoughts?

Thanks in advanced?

If your pool is 20k gallons, a 40k gallon unit would be most appropriate. The way the manufacturers market the equipment is by assuming its running at 100% power for 24hours a day. But if you only want to run your pool pump 12hours per day, it can only make 1/2 of the rated chlorine, or 6 hours and 1/4, etc. The longer you run the device, the faster it depletes itself.

The reason for the 2x recommendation is the cost for a cell twice as large is often just slightly more expensive and so it pays for itself over time by running your equipment less and the cell lasts longer because it isnt used as much.

The model/brand you buy generally depends on what other equipment you have and if you want it to control the salt cell. If you have pentair automation equipment then a pentair cell might integrate a bit easier. But if you dont have any automation then it may not matter which manufacturer you buy from. Circupool tends to be more DIY install friendly with their warranty vs Pentair if you’re installing it yourself.

Ez,

I am a big Pentair fan, but even I would not recommend the iChlor cells...

If you don't have automation I would go with a CircuPool system, or a Hayward T15 or clone..

The larger the cell, the less you will have to run the pump and the longer the cell will last.

I would not go with less than a 40K unit, no matter what system you buy.

In the case of a SWCG system, going cheap is a false economy idea.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I don’t think CircuPool systems are sold in Canada. I will consider the Hayward’s.
