Aqualink RS in new build or add later

I'm building a new pool and making all the decisions about what to do for addons. Included parts that I know of so far are
- Cleaner Jandy MX6
- Heater Jandy LXi
- Jandy SWG

Pool will have a Spa and two low voltage lights.

I assume he would use the Aqualink RS for the "remote" addon, included would be some other "dumb" timer I guess. The remote option is $3,500 which seems way too high for the fanciest Aqualink with all the expansion (I am finding prices around $1,000 but I can't tell for sure what these things actually cost)

I'm an electrician but are there any things I can do now that will save me running additional circuits later? I assume they will have to drop a sub that has all the amps I'll need for this stuff to run and the Aqualink just automates everything.

Thoughts?

Welcome to TFP.

Install the Aqualink RS cabinet during construction. The Aqualink RS 6614-LD comes with a load center that is your subpanel for your pool CB's. You run one feed to the Load Center put the CB circuits in the panel and then wire the devices to the AUX relays where necessary.

The Jandy Aqualink physical cabinet comes in three different configurations. Two of the cabinets do not have a Load Center while the other one does.
  • 6612F = This is a small size power center that comes with 4 relays and has no more room to fit additional. It does not have high voltage breakers so this would only be used when a sub-panel is nearby already supplying power to the equipment.
  • 6613 = This is a medium size power center that comes with 4 relays and has room for up to 8 (just purchase Jandy 6581 separately if you need more) . Just like the 6612F, it does not have high voltage breakers so this would only be used when a breaker box is nearby already supplying power to the equipment.
  • 6614-LD = This is the most common load center you see for installs. It has a low voltage area on the left side to fit plenty of addon boards such as JVA relays and smart JVAs. There is a high voltage side that has 12 slots to fit Siemens breakers. It comes with 4 relays and can fit up to 8 on that side (just purchase Jandy 6581 separately if you need more). You'd wire all your high voltage into this box as it would be a sub-panel for your entire pool.

That answers the question of what the Aqualink actually does here but I'm still wondering about the price.

If my builder is up charging $3,500 for the Aqualink, and I'm very comfortable installing it later, wouldn't I save a couple thousand by just buying the kit and doing it myself after assuming my builder isn't willing to let me install the Aqualink myself at construction time.
