My booster pump froze-up (smells burnt too) and I am looking for a drop-in replacement. I currently have a Pentair Boost-Rite LA-MS05 running my Polaris 280 (which replaced a Polaris 480-Pro). I am using the hose kit. I see some info (snipped pasted below from): Booster Pumps - Further Reading

- The LA-MS05 has poor availability (discontinued?)
- The PB4-60 is listed on the Polaris 280 page - this is the lowest cost option, available on Amazon but says (This item can not be shipped to your selected delivery location, but I can get it from Leslies.com for $60 more). Can’t find GPM or PSI specs.
- The EC-LA01N is available on Amazon for $460
- The Hydroboost is available from other pool supply stores for about $100 more than the EC-LA-1N

Does someone have experience with the PB4-60 vs. Hydroboost vs. the EC-LA01N to propel my Polaris 280? If I buy the Hydroboost, what am I getting for the extra cost other than an additional 1.2 GPM, which I am not convinced I need to run the 280 (lots of water coming out of the wall fitting).

• Polaris/Zodiac/Jandy PB4-60 pump - dual voltage (230/115V); .75 HP motor with 1.25 THP; 3/4" Softube Quick Connect fittings (Anyone have more details? what are the BPM and PSI specs?)
• Pentair LA01N pump - dual voltage (230/115V); .75 HP motor with 1.5 SF giving 1.25 THP; provides 50 psi at 12 GPM; single stage impeller; hose and adapters included
• Pentair LA-MS05 Boost-Rite booster - dual voltage (230/115V); 1.1 HP motor with a 1.0 SF; provides 50 psi@ 13.2 US GPM; 1" inlet/outlet; 5 stage impeller; includes Hose Adapter Kit (353040)
• Pentair HydroBoost™ Booster Pump - replaces Boost-Rite pump - dual voltage (230/115V); 0.8 HP motor; provides 50 psi at 13.2 GPM; 1" fittings; 5 stage impeller; includes Hose Adapter Kit (360526)

I say get the PB4-60.

Let’s see what @1poolman1 installs in CA.
Yup! Use them all the time. Don't worry about GPM as the wall fitting will adjust the flow. Intheswim on eBay has them for $380.00, a tremendously good price.
The BoostRite is a discontinued pump. Now the HydroBoost is Pentair's energy efficient model.
The Pentair Boost-etc. pumps are more energy efficient, I've tested with a true kW meter, and in PG&E country that can be a consideration. I've seen a 50% decrease in energy used, but a booster pump doesn't run that long nor use a tremendous amount of energy to begin with. Repairs to the PB4-60 are easy, as are to the LA01N, the others not so much.

Thanks. It's on the way. I was wondering about the difference between InTheSwim on eBay vs. their website. The PB4-60 is $60 more on their Website. Their eBay store seems like a reasonable bet. Yes, I'm a PG&E (Piggy) customer too, so energy efficiency helps. Thanks for the information!
