Hayward UV Ozone

I think you are referring to turnover. Most UV cite some amount of turnover because it only "cleans" the water that passes through it. That is the disadvantage of a UV system. It does nothing for the water in the pool where a child may pee in it. Only chlorine in the pool will attack the pee - immediately!

Outdoor pool?
You already have a great - and free - UV provider in that big orange ball in the daytime sky.
A standalone UV unit really doesn't provide any additional benefit to an outdoor pool - but it does use electricity, eats chlorine and needs periodic maintenance.

Hi, and nope, nothing to do with turnover. Just asking how often I need to run my pump.

It’s an outdoor pool, and it’s a UV Ozone system. I understand the opinions on the system itself. Just wondering how often I should be running my pump.

The recommendation for time to run a pump is based on the need
Skimming
Creating Chlorine (if you have a SWCG)
Mixing Chemicals
Running a pressure side or suction side cleaner
Some do it in 6 hrs others run 24 hrs.

The instructions on the UV should indicate what they recommend for time to circulate a given size of pool multiple times a day for a UV to be effective.

You should run the pump when you need it to do something...
  • skim the pool
  • mix chemicals
  • run the SWG
  • run the heater
  • run the cleaner
  • filter the water
How long you runt he pump depends on your pool equipment and environment.

jp,

I have never seen a 3-speed pump, so I assume you have a VS pump.. Is that true??

If so, I would run the pump 24/7 at the lowest speed that still lets you skim well. (For me, this is 1200 RPM)

Your speed will depend on the plumbing, the size of your pump, and if you have a heater or not.

The more you tell us, the better we can get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Pretending that UV systems do anything, turnover and UV run time would be related.
With that said - what are you trying to achieve? The negative effects of UV systems are well known, but perhaps you have a different goal.
