In floor cleaner valve: worth upgrading?

I have a 6 port in floor cleaner in my pool that stopped rotating heads this last season. Just took it apart and several gears are stripped.

I can get the replacement gears for $99.

But also noticed it uses balls vs t flaps that I saw in most videos when researching. For those with in floor heads, is there any benefit to upgrading to the t valve style? Can replace the whole thing for $300 and doesn’t seem super difficult.

Waste of money or worthwhile improvement?

How worn are the balls?

If you wind up installed the T flaps, please save the balls as I may need them.
If you replace the entire water distribution valve, save the old pieces and we'll chat.

Don't just replace the gears, replace the entire gearset - including the piece the gears sit in the the center shaft.

Not that I'm aware of.
If one ball were to crack, you will need to convert the entire water valve to the T valve setup or dind a used ball so ewhere. The balls are no longer available from the manufacturer.
