I found this at home. The previous owner had it stored with other pool gear. Anyone knows what this is for? I tried Google it but found nothing. There was sealed Rainbow Lifeguard Mini Vac 204 from 1998 next to it so this thing is pretty old.

I think @1poolman1 or maybe @98Poolmaster has become our resident pool historians. Let's see if they know.
It doesn’t look like a manufactured part maybe a homemade contraption.
It has a garden hose connection and a float on it and a return jet on the one end
I asked our service/parts manager and even he doesn’t recognise it and we have both seen a lot of parts and gizmos over the years
Sorry it doesn’t look like anything you can still get or that’s very important

Looks like someone adapted a spa jet fitting to make some sort of cleaner. That float is the mast float from a Polaris 180/280/360/380.
There was a cleaner out in the mid 1980s (before my time in the business) that looked like a larger version of that, called an Octo-something.
It was attached to a return line floated around with 8 hoses and was a very random pool sweep. Only saw one and was asked to repair it. Was hard not to laugh.

Yah I remember that one that’s the one I was thinking too.
The thing that threw me off was the garden hose attachment the body is similar to a Polaris wall fitting and the float is definitely from a Polaris.
This picture is another weird old cleaner
Letro Sweep did you ever see one of these?
And the old one that was the worst one I remember the Arneson Pool Sweep

It looks like a home made contraption using a venturi to feed in some sort of chemical.

It looks like you connect a garden hose and then put the tubing into whatever you want to feed in like floc, or whatever.

Interesting that Letro was started by two women here locally that were making Polaris bags for the 180 when the patent ran out. Always liked them, less expensive, larger, and better Velcro.
Don't know the entire history, but as they grew their company started making Polaris parts and Pool Sweep clones when that patent ran out, and booster pumps for pool cleaners. Then Pentair bought them.
Hayward bought Arneson and no more Pool Sweep, but they still make the Pool Vac, relatively unchanged.
I liked the Pool Sweep for very leafy pools. While it didn't pick them up, it did put them in a nice pile that was easy to remove with a Leaf Master, especially when an adapter for the Arneson hose was used. Repairs were easy. The actual Pool Sweep booster pumps were terrible, very easily damaged.
Parts are still available for the Pool Sweep, Letro brand.

This guy helped develop the Kreepy Krauly and I heard he helped develop the first Pool Vac Ultra with Arneson
Those old real small Arneson are the best suction cleaners ever made in my opinion
I have repaired over a thousand in my life the Hayward Navigator and Pool Vac Ultra who also bought Poolverghnuegen who made The Pool Cleaner

Yup, great suction cleaners. I do like what Pentair did with their copy of the Poolverghnugen, made if more serviceable.

Arneson! That's old school. It was standard issue when I started doing pool service in the 70's. It was also standard to screw down the tile sprayer on the top of the cleaner to cut down the calcium buildup caused by it. Any of you remember the Ray O Vac?

The Pentair Rebel and little Rebel are good cleaners for sure
Zodiac has some good ones too the MX8 and MX6 are pretty good also.
Hayward Aquanat are okay I don’t like the newer turbine with the veins I like the old turbine with out the veins (AXV621DAT) the kit w/turbine and A frames but they changed the inner housing part where the turbine bearings go and they can’t fit
They took the design from the Pool Cleaner and installed those veins in the redesigned versions

Oh yah had all the frigging replacement parts and hoses for the Ray O Vac
What a pain those were to repair all the little pieces on the hoses
