Question on pool component

Hi,

New joiner. Just posted on the intro forum. Having recently started maintaining my pool, I have a couple of questions on what some parts of my pool are…

Below are pictures of my pool. I have 2 tubes sticking out of the pool stairs see pic, does any know what they are for? Also, after my liner change, one of what looks like a return line is covered by the liner, see pic (circled in pool pic and blowup) (looks like there’s suction in it but that’s not always the case, sometimes the liner pushes out). I didn’t noticed it earlier, but doesn’t anyone know what this might be?

Thanks in advance

Can't help you on the tubes.

The covered port is one of two things. It is either an equalizing port that is connected to a skimmer, like this...

Or it is an abandoned suction side vacuum port that has been abandoned. I actually have BOTH and both are covered (abandoned).

Can you post a picture of your equipment pad? This may give us clues.

Look down in the skimmer, are both ports open or is one plugged? If both are open, determine which one is the suction to the pump. Turn the pump off. Stick a garden hose in the hole that does not lead to the pump...the vinyl should push out with the pressure. This would tell you it is an equalizing port.

Welcome to the forum.
The tubes are directly above a return. Those returns are likely venturi returns and if the tube is open to the air they will pull air into those returns creating bubbles when the returns are operating.

Thank you for your response. Please see a picture of my equipment area (not pretty). I tried to label what I know. There’s on return valve that had no effect when I turn it on, so I leave it off.

Also, on the skimmer, the second hole is plugged on both my skimmers.IMG_6470.jpeg

Thank you. I will try to open the cap and see if it is the Venturi. Based on the picture, I assume I can cut mine down so I can fit a safety cover over the stairs.
