Howdy all, is this a vacuum port? Can or should I use it for my manual vacuum or is it better to use my skimmer port? I only have one skimmer and no main drain if that matters. How about something like this? Does anyone have any experience with it? I would prefer a robotic cleaner but the one I’d like is out of my budget at the moment.

Could be. Is it plumbed into the suction side of your equipment pad? Remove the plug and see what you can do at the equipment pad.

Would need the spring actuated cover for it as it can be an entrapment hazard.

Is there a valve at the equipment pad to control the vac port - or an unmarked pipe?
Post a few pics of your equipment pad.

As Marty stated, a spring actuated cover is needed on that pool side port for safety.

I haven’t tried to unscrew the plug yet but I don’t see any dedicated plumbing for it on the equipment pad. All I see is the suction line going into the pump, the return line that feeds the two return jets, and then the waste line. It is a super basic configuration.

Mike,

Normally, when you have a vac port in the side wall of your pool, there is a valve at the equipment pad to turn it on or off.

I am not sure what the port is for, but I'd open it up and run the pump and see if you can feel suction or maybe return flow coming back out.

It could also be a capped off overflow line or ???

Your equipment pad looks like it may have been reworked since it was originally built. You could have some abandoned plumbing under the rocks...

Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks guys. I did have my pump and filter replaced recently. Here is the original setup that came with the house but I don’t know if it was all original. The port kind of looks like a plugged return jet, which would be nice given its location and the fact I only have two right now on opposite sides of the pool, but I’ll go turn the pump off and unscrew it when I get home and see what I can find out.
