I was looking on the thread and found this older post Upsizing pipe size, worth the effort? that kind of seems what I am shooting for. I guess my question is if my pump has a 1.5 inch inlet and my filter has a 1.5 inch outlet do you still benefit using 2 inch pvc for all other fittings? From reading that it kind of sounds like you will have less restriction due to the valves/90s/straits/unions being 2 inch instead of 1.5 inch. So not as much gain if the pump/filter were 2 inch but less loss than if the whole system was 1.5 inch. Am I reading that right ? Or should I just stick to all 1.5 inch. I am replacing the current flex hoses with hard pipe is why I ask. Thanks!

08,

Not sure of your plan, but replumbing just your equipment pad is mostly a waste of time. It will not change the operation of your pool enough for you to even notice. Even removing several 90's at the pad will not do much to the overall flow.

This is doubly true if you have a VS pump.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Are you replacing hose or flex pipe? Water flows easier through pipe than it does hose, even flex pipe. The benefit of going to all 2" above ground and keeping 1.5" underground would be very minimal, especially if you are using a VSP.

Thanks for the reply folks ! Believe its hose. Its the stuff that came with the pump and filter...uses stainless steel clamps kind of looks like the hoses that come with an intex pool. Its not the Flex PVC. I was going to replace it regardless with Hard PVC just because I want something more solid and longer lasting. My plumbing is above ground, the fella in the link I posted had underground. I was just using that is kind of an example I was able to find close to what I was thinking. It was an old post though and did not wanna post to it. It kind of sounds like the gain would not be noticed though doing 2 inch instead of 1.5 inch. I have a 2 speed 1.5 hp pump with a cartridge filter and 21 foot above ground pool if that helps.
