Should I tackle the CYA or the TA first?

TA says I should add 41 lb of soda!! Any guesses on how much muriatic acid I'll probably need to add?

How did you test? Something looks off with those at first glance.

But to answer CYA, you need to drain a bit so your dumping added TA and potentially the full water will add TA. Your FC target would be 10 at that CYA roughly.

I’d do an OCLT right away too. That will impact the CYA reduction recommendations.

If it’s Pool Store or strips add 5ppm Chlorine daily and have your buddy order a recommended test kit ASAP.

Your CYA is 100 or more and your FC is only 3.. That is your major problem to work on.

I really doubt that your TA is zero...

You need to get your CYA down to 70 and your FC up to 8 ppm ASAP

Without knowing a bit about your buddies pool, it is difficult to provide advice.
Pool details?
How does the water look?
Visible algae?
How have they been chlorinating?

Are those numbers from one of the recommended test kits?

The Taylor kit said 0... I was shocked! I did not add the recommended Baking soda... I wanted to get CYA and FC under control first...

Water was dull but clear
Small algee blooms forming
Tabs and shock
I used my Taylor 2005
Tested my pool water last week with no issues.
 
This make more since!
Now PH is calling for 37lbs of BS

0 TA. pH has to be that.
You want to get some baking soda in it if the TA is zero. You can start to exchange some water, but add enough baking soda to raise TA by 20 ppm, mix it well with pump and brush. Test TA. Repeat until you get a TA of 60. Then test pH again.
