The IC40 unit is about 6 years old and had (if I remember correctly) at least 60-80% usage last I checked. But somehow, the usage hours shows as 20% now. I did fiddle around with the buttons a few weeks ago and might have reset the unit, but not sure if the reset actually resets the usage hours?
I also did a muriatic acid clean last week in order to hopefully squeeze some more hours out of it, but I think it's at the end of its life.

Why does it show up as 20% on the usage hours now?
How can I know if the unit is not generating chlorine on the unit itself? The CELL light was off at the season opening (I'm in SoCal, so had a "soft" opening with SLAM), but is now GREEN after the MA cleaning.

The hour counter is a vague estimate at best. Even if it's right, you can be +/- 1000 hours from the little light.

More importantly, you have 6 looooooong seasons on your cell. Don't question why it's still working. Gift horse and whatnot. ;)

Also, MA cleaning removes life. Only do it when there is visible scale you can't knock off with a popsicle stick, and vinegar wasn't strong enough first.

Hy,

I have three saltwater pools with IC40's and I have never looked at my "usage number". I find it useless.. Either the cell works or it doesn't. If it does not work, it does not really make any difference what counter shows. I don't believe it is resettable ...

If the "Cell" light works, then the cell is making chlorine. Once the cell light starts to flash when the cell is clean, it is time to buy a new cell.

Here is a quick test..

Set the output to 50%.. Run the pump. The Cell light should come on for about 2.5 minutes, while the cell is making chlorine, and then it will be off for about 2.5 minutes while the cell is at rest. This will just keep repeating. If the cell light comes on and off like it should, most likely the cell is making chlorine.

Obviously, the salt light and the flow light have to also be green.

Most cells last 5 to 7 years.

If the cell light is working and it 'appears' the cell is not making chlorine, the number one reason is algae, even if you can't see it yet. Low level algae can consume chlorine much faster than the cell can make it.

Thanks,

Jim R.
