Dripping leak at weird metal connection from old raypac heater. What is it?

That is a DWV test tee with a cleanout. @ajw22 @JamesW @1poolman1 you guys ever seen something like this?
I have no idea except maybe someone wanted to be able to cleanout the line, or pressure test, but both would be really odd.

No. Can I just get a regular plumber to cut this out and replace with pvc? I’m having a hard time getting pool people out this time of year .

Sure, anyone can replace it. Nothing special about “pool people” if you can find a plumber who is willing to fix it.
He probably needs to order the proper PVC stuff. It is often not locally available.

The PVC stuff is normal. The union to the heater is not, it is pool heater specific...

Yes, it is a bronze check valve. Used to see them all the time.

I believe that is an old brass check valve.We used to put them on older heaters
Why do you want to replace this swinging check valve? Just fix the leak. It has been there this long leave it alone.
