We just finished the SLAM process after draining 3/4 of our pool and refilling it. Due to having to de-chlorinating the pool prior to draining, we had an unusual amount of algae hence the SLAM. In continuing proper maintenance, we are looking for recommendations on how long to run our filter each day.
Thank you

Hey Northtown! I grew up on Hickey Ave. Rancho grad. I won't tell you what year. Ha. Enough about me. Run your pump long enough to mix chemicals, provide good circulation, and skim the water's surface to keep the pool clean of debris. You do not appear to have a salt water generator, so that doesn't matter. Each pool is different, so just use good judgement. The link below may also help you.

Thank you, that is helpful.

You have a 1.5hp Century motor on your pump. It would help to know the brand and model of pump. A picture?

My pool I run the pump from about 8 am to 5 pm in summer and 10 am to 3 pm in winter. Summer is during the time the sun is on the pool and I create chlorine during that time. Winter is just to run it for skimming. Works OK. At the rpm needed for skimming the electricity costs about $12 per month in summer and $8 per month in winter.

I would run it 24/7, but the pump is right on the wall of our bedroom and there is low frequency hum that is noticeable when it is really quiet (night).

Thank you very much. It always helps to get advice from someone who lives in the same climate zone. I see you have a Pentair variable flow pool pump. Do you recommend it? I have been looking for special offers in our area bit there are absolutely none within the last 7 months, but I will keep looking.

Do you recommend it?
Absolutely. The Intelliflo3 or Intellipro3 is the newest version. It is controlled via the Pentair App. You have to get an additional component to control it via a touchscreen at the pump. The 011028 is still available as an EC sale (one year warranty for DIY install).

Polytec Pools in Las Vegas has pumps available.

Howdy neighbor, I run my variable speed pump 24/7. I have done the math on its kW usage to our NVEnergy costs. It came out to $26 a month. I put my pool equipment on the outside property block wall so I can’t hear it at night. I also run the pump 24/7 to add a little chlorine all day from April to Oct, I have a SWG. Because it does get down into the 30 degree temps many nights this past winter, I ran the pump 24/7 to not worry about protecting against freeze issues. Hope this helps.

Thank you both, Laughlin and Nevada, for the helpful information. I trust my fellow TFP members more than any Pool company sales person, so I have two more questions: my current pool pump is 1.5 hp. Do I need a 3hp? And what is better: a Variable Speed or a Variable Speed and Flow pump?

Maybe a picture from a little farther back? Cannot tell if that is a single or double breaker.

That circuit breaker is a 30 amp Double Pole. If you pump is powered through that circuit breaker, it is 220V.
