We’ve encountered a very strange issue with our spa and neither we or our builder can figure out what’s wrong. 🤦🏻‍♀️ The spa will run fine during the day but sometime around 6pm (don’t know the exact time or if it’s even consistent) if you try to turn the spa on it will kick on for just over one minute and then shuts itself off. The only way to get it to stay on after this time is to change it to service mode, but even then it will only stay on for 10 minutes. We’re getting super frustrated and can’t find anything useful online to help. We’ve changed the egg timer to never stop and that didn’t work. The pool runs fine regardless of the time as well. Attached are the specs on our pool if it helps.

I cant directly help you, but looks like your automation is Pentair Intelliconnect. You may want to post a few screen shots of your schedule and other settings to help others troubleshoot.

Under SPA the sheet says EASYTOUCH w/SL2.

Post pics of your automation panel. We need to see if you have a “Lite” EasyTouch panel.

J,

Please tell me what happens when the spa shuts off??

What does the pump do?

What do the valves do?

How are you turning on the Spa? Are you using the spa side remote or ScreenLogic or the main panel?

Please show me a several pics of your equipment pad.

Thanks,

Jim R.

It looks like your pool is scheduled to turn off at 6pm. Have you considered running your pool longer? I have the same pump as you and it is very energy efficient at low speeds. I run mine 24/7, but most of the time it is at a much lower RPM (~1200) and draws as much power as a ceiling fan.

It is more of a workaround, but should let you use your spa anytime, with the benefit of skimming, chlorinating, and filtering your water more.

Here are some pictures of the equipment. Don’t mind our blower on the ground, it doesn’t work so the builder has it capped for now. We changed the time on the equipment last night and that made it work but it’s not a permanent work around. My husband doesn’t want the pump on 24/7 because we have bubblers that run with it and it causes issues with the chemistry. We tried shutting the bubblers off but then it seems like it’s too much pressure on the returns. The night picture shows the actuators work correctly it’s just the pump shutting off after a minute for some reason.

J,

What makes you think you have too much pressure on the returns? What 'returns' and what happens that you can see?

When in the Pool mode the pump is set to run at 2500 RPM, when you switch to the Spa mode, the pump is set to ramp up to 3450 RPM. Does this actually happen in the Spa mode or does the pump continue to run at 2500 RPM?

If this were my system, the first thing I would do is to unplug the spa side remote connector from the main board. Spa side remotes can cause weird issues and I'd want to temporarily remove that possibility. It just unplugs..

As a test, I suggest that you put the system in the Pool mode and then look at the little LCD on the main panel. It should say AUTO and below that Pool. Then using the 'V' button only, switch to the Spa mode and ensure the display says AUTO and Spa.

You are correct that your problem is odd and does not make a lot of sense at first glance. Since the pump is shutting off when in the spa mode, it has to be because it is not being told to run when it should, or maybe the pump is telling itself to shut off for some reason.

Another test you could run would be to adjust ScreenLogic to run the Spa at 3000 RPM instead of 3450 and see if that makes any difference.

And finally... If your pump is a new VSF IntelliFlo, it could be related to a Firmware issue. Use the pump's control panel (when the EasyTouch is in the Service mode) and look to see what version of F/W is in the pump. Report back and we can tell you if it is the latest F/W or needs to be upgraded.

Thanks,

Jim R.
