Pentair Screenlogic protocol adapter - Need Help

Hello Folks,

I have a protocol adapter this is almost working but not quite. I bought it used from ebay and I'm determined to make it work.

The problem is it never shows up in my router (IE my router never issues an IP address). I'm on an iMac and I'm also trying to update to the latest firmware version 5.2.738. The BRICK updater seems to find the adapter but it fails in the update process with "ERROR - RAM LOADER NOT FOUND". (SEE ATTACHED FILE of screen shot).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?

Welcome to TFP.

Is 192.168.168.2 in your subnet address range?

Hello ajw22 and thanks for the reply.

I don't believe it is in my subnet range. But the fact that the updater sees it and gets that far in the process leads me to believe it was communicating.
I have included a screen shot of what my network says. Is the subnet range the same thing as the Subnet Mask?

Your IP address range is 192.168.4.XXX and can’t communicate with a 192.168.168.XXX device.

The protocol adapter has know issues getting stuck on an IP address and not releasing it when put on a new network.

I would create a small local network addressed as 192.168.168.XXX to match the IP address in the PA. That may let the updater communicate with the PA.

Excellent, I will give that I try. I don't dare change anything on my current network or I may have a lot of angry people if it goes wrong, LOL. Can I do it by plugging the Protocol adapter directly into my MacBook via ethernet and turning off WIFI? Or maybe using a simple hub to connect the two devices? I have just enough knowledge to know I don't have enough knowledge, LOL.

You have an old router sitting around? Then use it to create a small network with that address range.

LOL,,,, I knew you were going to say that. I just delivered an old router to our local electronic recycling place last week as I hadn't used it in year. But it would have been perfect for this. I will ask some of the neighbors if they have a old one laying around. Thanks for you help and I will return here and let you know how it goes.

Another possibility if the protocol adapter does not need internet access to fix its ip address would be to change the ip address on your Mac to a manual address of 192.168.168.1 leaving the mask the same and removing the router address (you could use 192.168.168.255 if the Mac insists on having a default gateway). That would allow you Mac to talk to your protocol adapter over your home network. If that is enough to change the IP settings on the protocol adapter then that would be enough (I don't know the device, just networks). Just set your Mac back to DHCP after solving the issue.
BTW 255.255.252.0 is a strange mask to use at home, but that's another discussion!
