New Pool Build In Progress - IG Vinyl

On a sad note, we had to have our 11.5 year old Doberman put to sleep.
That SUCKS. Sorry for your loss. :(
Grass isn't going to grow anytime soon so I'm not sure what my other options are to do around the decking, at least 3-4' from the edge of the decking out.
Indoor/outdoor carpet is about $1 a foot for the cheap stuffs last time I looked. I was expecting to have to wait for the ground to settle for a patio and was going to wrap the pool perimeter with it.

Cardboard does surprisingly well on the cheap.

Funny how pine needles never made it to this part of the yard before, until we put a poo in. LOL
^^^^^^^^ that's 2 lol's in that remark. :ROFLMAO:

I was flooding the yard yesterday after a big rain. My bestest little helper promptly made the puddle bigger.

That wasn't the mission but bless him for trying.

I'm really at my wits end with the dogs digging. It's not like they don't have another acre or so they can go dig that's not right next to the pool decking.

I guess I'm just so OCD that the muddy / dirty paw prints on the concrete as well as the dirt they sling just drives me up the wall.

Well muddy is the key word now...It's pouring here, first time in a month.

Since I like to tell stories about my BIL, we were over at his house last weekend for a family get together (puke). My wife was showing his stepdaughter the pics of our pool and she was like "oh that's pretty with the pool lights." My SIL was sitting right there and was like, "we didn't get lights because we have this big light up on the house that shines over the whole area." Well ok Linda but that isn't the point of pool lights. Neither my BIL or SIL has said how nice our pool looks, it's always about theirs. That light is one of those super bright high wattage commercial looking one's, it very well could set his woods on fire if they leave it on to long.

It sucks but they're legit trying to help. Look how happy the last hole made you. 🤷‍♂️

I am with Dude on this one-cheap carpet until the Spring time! Use fake grass staples to help hold it down.

Pool looked awful from all the wind, leaves and pine needles all over the top and lots of leaves in the bottom. Got it all cleaned up and man the water is glass clear. Still waiting on PB to put in heater part, not that it really matters now but still needs to be fixed.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Need some thoughts on this......In the area between the concrete pool deck and my shop holds all the runoff water from the pool as well as any rain water. I'm thinking about putting a yard drain in right in the corner where the patio and pool decking meet. This is were most of the water pools but I was also thinking about just filling in the whole area with gravel of some type. It would be like another littler area to sit or whatever. It's about 10' wide by 16' long area.

Any thoughts on doing that? The gravel idea was also to keep the dogs from wanting to play in that area when it's wet.

I absolutely love the 3/8s crushed gravel /bluestone I used. It was $80 a yard at the sand/patio/stone supply, or 5X that in small bags at the home centers.

I had similar 'flaps' on either side of the house patio and shaped the grade down and away and gravel'd it. Each side gets half the 40x33 patio worth of runoff and it's worked great in several floods so far.

@Newdude That is the area I'm looking at. The exact spot I'm putting the yard drain would be at the corner where the decking and patio meet, that's where all water tends to stand and my soil is clay so it won't absorb the water.

I assume I would put a geotextile fabric under all the crushed gravel.

How thick did you make your gravel?

This looks good and pitched away already from this angle. Could you shape it at the top a little better to make its own way downhill ?

I went about 2 inches over repurposed fill dirt. I can add about 4 more if need be, which would take the slope and make it closer to level. I wasn't sure it was going to work, or that I'd like it, and I was all but out of funding when i got to that part. So going thick out of the gate had 3 strikes againt it. :ROFLMAO:

But it worked great *and* I liked it. If stuff grows in it that cant be kept at bay with roundup i'll add more gravel.

Not sure I can shape all that by hand to get it to slope better?

My PB said he could get me 6 tons of 2" clean gravel, hauled and dropped off close to that area for me at a whopping $92...LOL He did shoot me a price on some decorative rock they used at a local business here 3x the price of the other.

I think I will have to go the gravel route regardless of if I can slope it any more or not. I'm just trying to think how it's gonna look and what use I can get out of that area if it is all gravel.

Well what's new around here??

My wife is retiring from her teaching job once this school year is done...exciting and our oldest daughter is having twin boys this summer...exciting x2.

Pool wise, yard is a mess, dogs are always a muddy mess, my nerves are shot.

The pool is constantly dirty, it was clear a month ago and now I can't get it clear at all. It's just like dirt keeps sitting on the bottom no matter how much I brush or backwash. Salt level all the sudden dropped down to 2700ppm from 3200ppm, it's possible that the backwashing dropped it but I only ran it once. I even added enough salt (2 bags) the other day to get it back to 3200 according to pool math but it only raised it to 2900ppm. Not sure it's rained that much to cause that big of a change???

I'm sure you can tell that we decided just to leave the pool open all winter. It'll be time to open it in a monthish?

Oh and we still don't have a working heater/chiller. They finally got Rheem to send out a brand new unit, just shipped last tuesday. Every time the heater kicked on it threw the breaker. The company had them check wiring, grounding, bigger breaker (2x), capacitor. They've been trying to get it fixed for 6 months now...geeezzzzzz

WOW! Some huge things happening in your family for sure! Guess I know what wife will be doing this summer and up coming year!!! BEING A GRANDMA!!!

6months??? Yeah that should have been replaced long ago.................sigh.............

Ok dirty pool and had to keep salt levels up. Let see what you working with:

-Do you have an auto refill?

-Is it dirty or dead algae? Guessing dirt from dogs and messy yard. Do you have plans to fix yard up or is that one the back burner with all you have going on? If you are unsure what the "dirt" is you can suck some up with a turkey baster. Squirt it out on a white paper towel in a strainer and let it dry. Let us see what it looks like dry.

Double barrel congrats are in order. 🥳

I FEEL YA. I thought getting the war zone seeded would really help. It just turned the dogs and pool from sandy/clay brown to topsoil black. 🤣

But. 6 to 8 weeks after THAT, the mud / dirt / dust fouling up the pool and the dogs subsided like it fell off a cliff. Hang in there just a little longer. The end is in sight.

Yes it should of been but Rheem just didn't want to ship out a new one. I didn't want a parted out one, I wanted a new one. Hopefully the new one works..LOL

No I don't have an auto refill.

I think it's just dirt. If I can get some grass growing it should cut down on the amount of dirt just blowing in. Supposed to get a couple pallets of sod sometime this spring.
