Today is the DAY

I had another issue, take a look at this photo, the ring on the left is centered, the ring on the right is not. I asked the supervisor, and he told me that they measure from the tile line to ensure that each ring is the same height from the tile and that is why it is not centered ...

Any thoughts?pool interior install 34.jpeg

Here is a good set of links for new plaster and new pool owners. I am betting you have seen many of them but it might be helpful to have them all in one post to reference:

Plaster start up:

Trouble Free Pool

Pool care links:
Print these out:
Pool School - Basic Pool Care Schedule
Pool School - Recommended Levels

Bookmark these:
Pool School - Recommended Pool Chemicals
Trouble Free Pool
Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry

Those rings/pipes-what are they for? I do not like they are not centered.

They are finished. Total time from arrival to leaving was about 3.5 hours. Here are some photos. The supervisor told me that the browning (Stains) would disappear with acid wash which is tommorrow morning. What are your thoughts?pool interior install 35.jpegpool interior install 36.jpegpool interior install 37.jpegpool interior install 39.jpeg

sorry, all been busy,
The acid wash went smooth, however I went inside the house for a bit, the finished the acid wash on the raised spa first and didn't tell me after I had a conversation with them about not filling until I took the meter reading and to fill the pool first (UGH, when workers have English as a second language, there is no communication). I could not stop the fill of the spa, so I waited for the spa to get to the middle of the tile and then turned off the water so that there was no spill over into the pool. I took my meter reading for the pool and measured the spa (It is square) to get my gallons in the pool. We started filling the pool at 9:30am with 3 hoses (Had to borrow a hose from the neighbor because the pool company in their instructions stated no black hoses), at 12:30am on Sunday the pool was filled, went back and filled the spa a little more so that it spilled over. Wasn't too sure about brushing the pool since the equipment startup was Tuesday. The pool looked great after the acid wash, I avoided a catastrophe with the spa being filled first and I know my total gallons for the pool. WHEW!

At least you were there and could stop the flow of water before the spa spilled over on the pool plaster and causing streaks. It is all good now! I would brush it just to keep the dust from becoming embedded on the new plaster.

Equipment Start Up Day,
The day was pouring rain in Northern California (We desperately need it) which made it a little more interesting, the tech took a bit to get the pumps going but they worked good. I didn't know that these Jandy VS PlusHP 2.7HP VS Pump were self-priming ... (Might have started them myself earlier) and these pumps are quiet compared to my single speed Hayward above ground pump (The Hayward pump was a cheap pump to replace my Intex pump and I loved it). The spa had some difficulties, The air blower would not work, the tech who was nice and patient pulled wiring and etc. only to find out that the breaker was not installed correctly (Having 120 wires in your hand while it is raining is a bit un-nerving for me), Then the spa jets were all plugged from gunite and interior finish etc., The tech cleaned them all and they work. He answered allot of my questions and I felt great about the experience. He added chemistry (3 gallons of 12.5% chlorine) I quickly ran to my computer to see if these would be a problem but the feedback on TFP was that Chlorine would not hurt your interior just natural fading from the sun, he added 1 gallon of acid, Calcium to bring the hardness to 200, and some CA which brought my CA to 20. He then as a precautionary measure added a bottle of sequestrant just to be safe. My only issue with this was I have been adamantly following the startup procedures from the NPC guide, so in the beginning I was concerned but a day or 2 off the schedule probably isn't going to kill the pools finish. I tested daily for PH and TA and brushed at least twice a day with my Wall Whale brush, I put a couple new Wall Whale brushes (Amazon had them on sale) so the kids could help, and they did. It was fun doing it together. The PH and CA moved every test but I stayed with the NPC guide. I checked my innitial filter pressure and spoke to the tech about it, He stated that with a variable speed pump, you can check the change but must be on the same speed, He suggested to clean the filters in 3 months and then every 6 months there after, What do you all think?

I think you are using CA for CYA (cyanuric acid), and calcium hardness is CH for future use.

On the picture of your filter pressure gauge - that outer ring rotates. So rotate it such that the START arrow is opposite your pressure needle. Just ensure you check it at the same pump speed because as the pool tech indicated, the pressure will increase with higher RPMs of your pump.

It would be good to clean your filter several months after the start up to remove any plaster dust. In general operation, some people go a full year before cleaning their filter and some do it more often. You will learn as time progresses what is best for your pool based on debris, time of year, etc.
