Hey there 👋🏼! Reaching out for help or advice here as we are new to having a pool and not sure what is normal. Our pool was built simultaneously with our house, and we were confident in our pool contractor because he was recommended by friends.

All was going well, until they went to do the ground work in the yard and at the same time decided to do the plaster in the pool. We have red dirt here and then we ended up getting some rain, so for about three weeks the pool sat with standing water about half way up, mixed with red dirt. We were assured this can happen and the stains would come out, so everything proceeded. Finished up, filled the pool, plaster is stained and splotchy.

After lots of discussion we finally agreed to pay for half to get it re-plastered. In the interim, tiles kept falling off. In the beginning it seemed like it was super easy to get returned texts/phone calls, but that stopped happening. Again, we agreed to purchase more tiles to have them replaced and they did that - it’s been less than a year and more tiles have come off. We’ve reached out several times, and finally got an answer he would come out and take care of it once swim season was over.

It’s over and he will not return our messages. The pool is 2 years old and I’m not sure if it looks like it’s supposed to be like this. I post timeline pics as best as I can. Any advice is appreciated! 886992CF-08CD-4C32-BE24-96C44640E32A.jpegF58E2DED-590F-439A-A2E4-DAF5B81A329E.jpegD671E4AC-7C5F-442E-A842-D157090C13D3.jpeg7F218FBA-8BAF-4C3E-969A-9316DEE26C68.jpeg9977C269-5414-4C7F-92E5-C3EDC327322E.jpegA18FB8BC-0435-4A04-95FD-E3D7E49D8282.jpeg5E3FD96D-137E-491D-965E-50B317A37661.jpeg

HI and welcome to TFP. Sorry to be meeting this way :(

-Plaster-brand new plaster=water flow should NOT be stopped until the water is at the middle of the waterline tile/skimmer opening. If it is stopped you can see the results, a line where it was stopped at. There is no to remove that line short of chipping it out and redoing it.

-Tile-sigh.................that should not be coming off like that as you well know. Gurrrrrrr on the installer.

Now HOW do you take care of this? You are going to have to collect each and every form of communication you have had with the PB. Notes if it was phone calls. Emails and texts are even better. Find all of your paperwork and see what kind of warranty you have on everything.

Now take all of the above and write a letter to the PB using the facts with pictures to back it up. Send it as a certified letter. Do NOT use any emotion as hard as that may be. Just the facts of what is going on and what was promised. Give him a time limit on getting back to you (a week or so). Let him know what you will be doing if you don't hear from him. You can take him to court and see him if you want to go that route. It will not be fun so be ready if/when he pushes back.

I hope the certified letter will get his attention. Let us know what happens.

It looks like you have an expansion joint problem between the coping and decking causing the tiles to pop off and the cracked coping. That is a separate problem from your plaster issues.

The reason for the tiles popping off needs to be determined and remediated or they will just pop off again.

I suspect your bond beam is cracked in some spots which you will only discover after the tile is stripped off. And you may need to remove the coping.
