I have an Ichlor 30 ran through an Intelliconnect. Pool and equipment all new September of 2021. June of 22 Ichlor screen with the numbers stops working. Pentair says its ok since its still producing and the other lights are on and the intelliconnect controls it anyway. I was not happy with that response. 2 weeks later the ichlor stops all together, no lights no production. Open new warranty claim and they replace the cell in September but still doesn't work. they come back last week and replace the power center and still does not power on. Pool tech says he's done his job and I would have to turn in a warranty for the Intelliconnect since it isn't telling it to come on. After a week of back and forth with Pentair they said its the Ichlor and to call the pool tech back and have them figure it out. I didn't have faith in the tech as he didn't seem to be very versed in the product when he replaced it. Here is where I am and my question.
Prior to the first issue the ichlor was wired together with the pump so it would only come on when the pump came on. The Ichlor was connected via RS-485 cable to the intelliconnect for management. All worked great till June.
Pentair said I needed to rewire it to full time hot and the Intelliconnect will tell it to turn on and off. I asked per all the discussions I read, isn't it supposed to be on only when the pump runs to prevent gas buildup? They said the Intelliconnect will handle the on/off. So I figured out what was wrong and rewired it up 120v to a dedicated breaker and boom it works. Now it will not turn off when the pump stops.
1. Should the Ichlor shut off when the pump shuts off?
There isn't a schedule in the Intelliconnect app to control on/off timing of the Ichlor just the pump and light.
Pentair says the Incelliconnect sends a signal to the Ichlor for when to run and not run but mine is now full time hot and always on.
2. What is the best wiring option for the Ichlor? 120v or 240v?

Appreciate all your help.

tu,

In most cases you want the cell to not have any power when the pump is off. The iChlor operates a little differently when connected to the IntelliConnect. Instead of removing the power to the cell, the IntelliConnect tells the cell to reduce its output to zero. So, while the cell still has power, it should not be making any chlorine.

The cell does not care if the primary AC power is 120 or 240, it just does not make a difference.

Thanks,

Jim R.

From page 4 in https://www.pentair.com/content/dam...stall-guide/intelliconnect-manual-english.pdf

Is the single speed pump designated as "Filter Pump" in the IntelliConnect app?

The iChlor power should be wired full time hot.

Check that the RS-485 wires are properly connected and making a solid connection. Confirm that the screws connect with the wire and not the insulation.

120V or 240V makes no difference in the iChlor operation.

Yes it was. The warranty person that replaced the ichlor overlooked the fuse being blown. It’s working now and I think now I understand it’s will always be on but when the pump is off it will be set to 0 thus not produce chlorine. Thank you
