Pentair QUAD DE drain

Ok, so you’re saying the smooth portion fits perfectly in the same size slip 90. Thanks for the clarification.
The nipple is basically a piece of pipe with threaded ends. There are no schedule 40 pvc nipples because the pipe wall is too thin to thread without weakening it too much. That's why the nipples are schedule 80. Schedule 80 pipe walls are much thicker.

Threaded?? Do you leave them on the night stand overnight?
They have a proprietary quarter turn quick locking system for rapid installation and removal. It also prevents theft since you would need to have the proprietary nipple receptacles.

While I do like the nipples, I don't wear them during activities since I find the wind resistance does add a few fractions of a second on my speed laps.

Yes, I did just that on my Quad100. The plug is 1.5" pipe thread so I screwed a sch 80 nipple into the filter, connected a 90 and put a valve that connected to a drain.
Will be doing similar here. Did you need o-ring(s) too or was teflon tape on the threads enough? Looks like an o-ring that I have from an old union fits, but no clue where to get a new one if needed.

Would this work threading right into the base a Quad DE 100?

I think the problem is there isn’t enough clearance around the opening to turn an elbow. So the threads might match but you would be able to turn it.

What people have done in the past is use a piece of straight 3” long threaded pipe nipple where they hacksaw off one set of threads. That leaves a short, 1/2” long smooth section of the nipple to then glue an elbow on to after the remaining threaded part is screwed into the bottom of the filter.

I'll order up a schedule 80 3" nipple, cut one end of the threads off, thread on, and then glue a schedule 80 90 with slip on oneside and threads on the other for future maintenance adding valve etc after the 90.

Waiting on order but will be putting in 1-1/2 nipped... cut the bottom off adding elbow slip & thread then thread another nipple into elbow so I can remove if need be... what 1-1/2 ball valve setups do you all use.. pvc version or metal versions .?

I will also be sure to run this either flush with ground to protect from getting broken / stepped on.

Pad gets a lot of sun so will be using schedule 80

SCH40 PVC is fine. My equipment pad is soaked in sun all day and we are a lot hotter than you. But if you already purchased the SCH80, then go for it.

Use the “Tru Union” type PVC ball valve in your link. You want to be able to rebuild a valve if it leaks rather than cutting it out and gluing in a new one.
