I have a Pentair Intellichlor SWG. The system was installed in 2009 when I bought the house and had the pool resurfaced. I think the current one is the 3rd or 4th one I've had. I bought one new and had at least 2 warranty replacements. And the current one I replaced the flow switch on about 4 years ago. Tonight I discovered that it is dead. No lights whatsoever. I'll check the fuse tomorrow, but I'm fairly certain it has given up the ghost.

I was wondering if my experience with the Intellichlor is normal. Pentair only warranties them for 3 years, do any other brands offer longer warranties? Do they last longer?

22,

The average lifespan of a SWCG cell is 5 to 7 years. All brands are about the same.

It is kind of like the fuel tank on your car, except when it is empty, you can't fill it up again.

Thanks,

Jim R.

With a long season, you'll reach your cells end of life sooner than folks will up north.

But at the same time, you'd also go through that many more jugs of chlorine per season. It's going to cost you more either way.

Managing your csi will also go a long way in furthering the life of your swg as frequently cleaning them reduces their life but they all have a finite life expectancy of 8-10k hrs at 100% even in the best circumstances .
Depending upon how long u you run yours that could be 4 years or 8.
What size cell are u running & how long/what % are u running it?

I'm running the Intellichlor 40 and I run it 10-12 hours a day during the season (Mar/May - Sept/Nov). And I'm running it at 60-80%. When water temp drops below the operating temp, I think it is 58F, I put in the dummy cell.

My reason for asking was the wife was wondering whether we'd get better results from another brand. I expected the answers received and thank everyone that responded.
