Our PB had the workers fill the pool after install and they left. Nothing running and the pool is now a algae pond! Its horrible! It has totally turned like a pond. The amount of scum/algae in it right now is shocking. We invested huge $$ and its just sitting there waiting for the electrician to come which wont be for another 5 days! PB told us he was sending a guy to shock the pool and add a water bond.
Is this normal should I be really upset or just let it be and not worry about it. Should we be doing something?poool.jpg

Welcome to TFP! I wouldn't say this is normal, nor certainly ideal, however many sub-contractors are spread thin nowadays due to supply shortages and scheduling conflicts. Not justifying it, but others have experienced delays this season. IMO, they should've worked closer with the electric subs before filling and locking the pool in place. But once it's up & running, a shock won't do it. You'll need to follow the SLAM Process. Also see our Pool Care Basics page for more info.

Welcome to TFP.

You should have been instructed to pour 5 ppm of liquid chlorine into the pool every day. You should begin doing that on your own and not waiting for the builder. Stir the water with a pool brush after adding the liquid chlorine.

Dumb question but even if we are going to have a saltwater pool?

A saltwater pool is a chlorine pool.

It just depends where you source the chlorine from.

It is best to get the pool to the required FC level using liquid chlorine and then use the SWG to maintain the FC level.

I would pour half a gallon of liquid chlorine per day and brush it all around. This won't cure you but its gonna "stun" the algae and keep it from getting worse, we hope.
Have you obtained your quality test kit yet? You're going to need it. I recommend the TF-Pro Salt www.tfetestkit.net or the Taylor K-2006C and the K-1976 Salt test kit.
Pay attention to what they pool guy wants to put in your pool... better yet tell them to give you the chems and you'll do it. Then you'll be able to pick thru the potions and with our help, only add the ones truly needed.
