Pentair Spa Config Check

Hi all recent owner of a Pentair spa (no pool), I've attempted to work with a few local resources (rural) to get this dialed in but to no avail, so thought I would see thoughts here. Essentially right now it doesn't appear that my pump will revert back to the normal schedule after I kick in the Spa High mode and I basically hit reset and it fixes itself.

I have a "Spa Low" that is set to "Pool" and a heat set point of 41 (do I need this if I just have freeze set to on?).
I have a "Spa High" that is set to "Spa" and a heat set point of 90-something.

Also the blower doesn't appear to be kicking in would love to get thoughts from this group on the config, thanks!

First the equipment (forgot to take a picture of the heater):

I've seen a lot of requests for pictures of the Schedule and Egg Timers so I've included these too:

Toby,

I am not sure why you are switching between the spa mode and the pool mode if you only have a Spa and I think this is just confusing me and the system.
The speed of the pump is determined by what circuit is on and what speed is assigned to that circuit. If two or more circuits are on at the same time, the pump will always run the fastest one.

Each Circuit can only have one speed, so you use Feature Circuits to "add" more speeds

Here is an example..

Spa Circuit. Set to run at 1750. This would be the slowest speed you ever want to run.
Feature 1. Set to run at 2500. You can rename feature circuits anything you want.
Feature 2. Set to run at 3000.

Let's say you schedule the Spa Circuit to be on from 8 am until 5 pm
You turn on Feature 1 at 9 am and turn it off at 10 am
You turn on Feature 2 at 1 pm and turn it off at 3 pm
You turn on Feature 1 at 2 pm and turn it off at 4 pm

Here is what will happen.

The Spa will come on at 8 am, and run at 1750 until 9 am, when the pump will increase speed to 2500. At 10 am the speed will decrease back to 1750 where it will stay until 1 pm when the speed will increase to 3000. At 2 pm Feature 1 turns on, but nothing will happen as 3000 is the faster speed. At 3 pm Feature 2 shuts off and the pump will decrease speed to 2500 because Feature 1 is on. At 4 pm the pump will go back to 1750 until 5 pm when the pump will shut off.

You can schedule the Feature circuits or manually turn them on or off.

I suggest that you abandon the idea of using the Pool mode as part of your routine.

As far as the blower goes, it is not going to kick in on its own. You will need to push the Aux 1 button.

Please let me know if this does not make sense or you have any other questions.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks, very helpful! This is what I've been fighting with I think too as this is how the installer set it up. Do I need to make changes to the Pool circuit (make it Aux4/Generic etc). It doesn't look like I can change Circuit Function, so maybe just ignore it?

Toby,

Well, since you have an EasyTouch-4 there is no Aux 4.. You have a Pump/Filter relay, (top left) and then Aux1, 2 and 3.

I suggest that you change the name of the Pool Circuit back to "Pool" instead of Aux 4. Just so that the next guy has a clue what things are supposed to be.

This won't make any difference in operation as you can name a circuit anything you want. You can name the Pool Circuit "Toby" or "Jim" if you wanted. The circuit name does not change what the circuit was designed to do. The Pool Circuit will always be the pool circuit no matter what you name it. Circuit names are just so that you can remember what they are for.

As an example: You can remember that Aux 1 is for your air blower but naming it "Air Blower" just makes it easier to remember what the Aux 1 button does.

I suggest that you leave Circuit Function at Generic expect for color changing LED lights. It is just not necessary in most cases.

What kind of cleaner do you have??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Good idea, just reverted back to Pool.
I don't have an automated cleaner, so not 100% sure what "Master Cleaner" is in this context. The only other item I have is a changing light, which I assume is one of these other circuits.

Toby,

Please show us a couple of pics of the inside of your EasyTouch with the panel removed so we can see the relays, circuit breakers, and the wiring.

Also, the buttons on the main panel if they are labeled at all.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Toby,

Your EasyTouch has 4 relays. If they are wired correctly, they would be (left to right) the Pump/Filter relay, then Aux 1, then Aux 2 and then Aux 3. The rub is that idiots sometimes wire things the way they want, and not how the system was designed. Each relay can be plugged into any relay slot, so without looking at the main card behind the door, it is impossible to know for sure. I will "assume" it is wired correctly for now.

Only one of your relays is being used. The air blower is connected to Aux 2. (Aux 2 has a Circuit Function of Master Cleaner.. I would change that to Generic, as it makes no sense the way it is.)

As a test press the Aux 1 button and see if the blower comes on or not. Then try Aux 2 and see if the blower comes on or not.

Your lights are not connected to a relay at all, which I find odd, but maybe you wanted some external switch. How do you control the light now? What kind of light is it? Does it change color? Do you have some kind of external light control box?

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks again for the help, I tested and despite its location the Blower is attached to Aux1 (I moved Aux2 to Generic) so it looks like that relay is in the wrong spot (this isn't surprising as I already had to open up the point to point wireless and correct the wiring inside to get my app working). Thanks again for the help here though. I now have a Spa circuit with an 8-5 schedule @ 1750 RPM & 40 degree set point, with a Spa High Feature at 3000 RPMs and the Blower working. (It does at this very minute show me as RPMs at 0 after I tested the Blower, so may have to watch the schedule tomorrow).
