So I have a Pentair 168452-04 1hp pump with a star clear C250 filter that I can't seem to get going. It starts up and I see water movement in the hut tub but then shortly after that doesn't seem to do anything. The pressure stays at roughly 30psi. I have taken the cartridge out and cleaned it but same thing. I recently bypassed the heater that it was piped in to and ran a new pvc line. Maybe the filter is rated too small for it? I have a call into Pentair but thought I would post here in the mean time. Feel free to laugh at the janky setup.

Post the water chemistry for your Hot tub...

30 PSI is to high for a filter.

Try running your filter without the cartridge and see how things work.

I suspect you have algae clogging your filter.

Cartridges can be cleaned in a commercial cartridge cleaning solution. Having that 1hp Challenger trying to shove water through that 25sq. ft. filter and make the spa "work" is like trying to put out a fire through a garden hose nozzle. Lots of pressure, no flow. Pentair won't comment on your system, especially on a pump that is no longer made. Yes, they are available, old stock that will run out.

Its not the pump, anyway, and your filter is a Hayward, which isn't a problem, its just too small.

Ok that's what I wanted to know and was thinking. I was only calling Pentair to ask them what filter they would recommend for that pump as it seems to be hard to find info. I was afraid that the filter was too small. I was trying to be cheap a year ago and get the smallest one and that's what I get for being a cheap *******. Is there a filter that you would recommend for that pump at a decent price? Maybe under $200?

The smallest you should try is 100 sq. ft. The only one I could find for under $200.00 is this:

Waterway 100 SQ FT Filter Assembly 2" 502-9910

Waterway is a good company, but I have no idea about this filter.
