Our pebblesheen (salt) pool was filled 5 days ago. Pool maintenance crew provided via the builder was out today and added chlorine. They won’t be back until Friday but told us we can swim tomorrow if PH levels look ok. I can only test for 3 values and they are listed below. Is it ok to swim today? Thanks!

PH: 7
Alkalinity: 70
FC: 3

Welcome to TFP.

What test kit do you have?

Nothing in those test results say not to swim.

I would like to know if stabilizer/CYA has been added yet and if so what is your CYA.

Thank you! Not sure about CYA. Pic attached of test (results were from earlier).

Showing pH. Those results are from noon. pH now shows 7.2 color.

That looks like less then 7.2 but maybe the color gets lost on the screens.

Looks more like 6.8 yellow color.

This is an old pic. I don’t have a pic of my most recent test which matched the 7.2 color.

I would measure combined chlorine and also do an overnight chlorine loss test. If you pass both (combined chlorine is less then 0.5 ppm and your free chlorine is stable over night (loss of less then 1 ppm) then you don't have anything growing in your pool. Assuming also that your water is clear, you should be good to go. Unfortunately these tests can only be done with a more advanced testing kit as ajw22 mentioned above. Without one of those kits, you cannot do these measurements, at least not accurately. Even if you have clear water, that doesn't necessarily mean you don't have bacteria/algae and it doesn't necessarily mean it is safe to swim.

Welcome to TFP! You searched online for a resource to help you take care of your pool. This is the place to be. Pool owners helping pool owners. The knowledge articles are intended to educate you so that in the long run you save time and most importantly money.

You just spent $$$,$$$ on your new pool. One of the recommended test kits is about $100 - $150 dollars depending upon which one you get. There are only 2 recommended test kits, TF-100 from tftestkits.net or Taylor K-2006C from Amazon. The kit your builder “gave” you won’t cut it.

With one of the recommended kits you would know how much FC (free chlorine), CYA (cyanuric acid) along with pH, TA, CH and CC (combined chloromines). This is the information that’s needed to determine if your pool water is balanced and more importantly sanitary (which means can you swim). Allen linked you to a great place to start reading but get yourself one of the test kits.
