Slamming today

First - best to have your CYA at 30 - you need to add stabilizer or you be losing FC to UV as well as to bacteria
Second - use MA to get pH down to 7.2
Best to use only LC - suggest you get 10 gals to start.
Clean your filter while waiting on stabilizer to raise CYA
Show us picture of your starting pool

Please review SLAM Process and

Did you get your own test kit ? Without it don't even bother.

SLAM is a process and needs many tests. The pool store simply won't keep testing you for free, much less even be open when you need to test outside of business hours.

OK, GREAT!!! Follow Herman's post above.

Each gallon should get you just under 6 FC and your target will be 12 that you want to M(aintain). Get the CYA dissolving and treat it like it's already there. (With the 12 target)

Keep us posted

10 gallons of liquid shock gave you 75 FC and 4 gallons gave you 30 FC.

You are using pool store testing and most likely their advice as well. Mixing and matching makes things worse, so pick one and follow it exclusively.

So no need to be an Rear as I’m looking for some help.
I use the color Q that I have owned for 2 weeks now and love it.
Last night I started the slam
Before I added 10 gal of shock my fc was .54
3 hours later after the shock was 14.8
This morning fc was 10.36
I added 4 more gal to bring my fc up.
Was just updating u as I think I need your advice as to how u think I’m doing.

I think you aren't following our advice. 🤷‍♂️

SLAM Process is a highly controlled process that works. It's not adding 75 FC on a whim. Or even 30 FC.
I use the color Q that I have owned for 2 weeks now and love it.
Its better than the pool store, so there is that. (y) but it doesn't do so well over 10FC from what I remember

That's the regular target for good times. Click the SLAM button to get those values. SLAM is 40% if you want to just remeber that instead, so you need to Maintain a 12 FC for 30 CYA. Unlike the other ways of dumping and praying, we have found M(aintaining) an elevated FC is the best way kill the algae for good. It's microscopic and may remain long after the water looks clear, and it will only take a week or two for the swamp to return as a 'new' problem.

So we use testing to determine what the eyes can't see yet, and perform controlled doses based on that. The longer the pool goes under SLAM level, the longer the process takes, so some effort is needed on your part. Testing/adding every 2 to 3 hours helps ALOT the first day or two. If you have something else to do you can add out of turn and buy yourself the next 3 hours away.

Bush and vac daily at least once because algae grows a biofilm over itself to protect itself from harsh environments. Wall/Floor algae may be real stubborn and each pass of the brush removes the top layer of biofilm so the next layer of algae can be killed by the water.

Clean the filter at 25% PSI increases.

Good luck. :)

Racing Rob, sorry to hear of your algae bloom right at the height of the holiday. That sucks!

Newdude is one of the above-ground pool experts on this site. He is many things: funny, irreverent, thoughtful, knowledgeable, encouraging, etc., but I have never heard anyone call him anything resembling "an Rear!" (I kinda like that though; mind if I borrow it? Lol!)

Anyway, the guy knows his stuff, and thankfully, he's pretty adept at letting criticism slide right off (much like a good ol', slippery algae bloom!) Follow the guidance you receive from him and others on this site. At any rate, you have found the experts that can help you (I'm not among that stellar group! Lol.) Instead, I'm a lurker and a learner. ;)

Follow the procedure, and once you're done, seriously consider adopting the TFP methodology for good. That's what I've done and have never regretted it for a minute. Good luck on your SLAM adventure, and enjoy the holiday!

Ok then
So what’s your advice
Get an fas/dpd test for fc &cc & a turbidity cya test (which are included in the Taylor k2006 & tf100/pro that are recommended here)
These can be purchased separately on Amazon & tftestkits.net.

Follow the SLAM Process using the FC/CYA Levels
Cya doesn’t jump overnight without adding some. The “pinpoint results” of the Lamotte can make it seem like it’s super accurate when infact it’s not.
I don’t trust the cya results -
For A cya of 30 SLAM/shock fc level is 12ppm
Using more just wastes chlorine & risks damage to surfaces, equipment, & swimmers.
SLAM stands for Shock Level And Maintain
I.E. - reach shock/slam level for your cya & maintain it until u pass ALL 3 end of slam criteria as listed in the article.
No more, no less.

Just keep Maintaining
👍🏻

You are done when:

CC is 0.5 or lower;
You pass an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test
AND
the water is clear. (Crystal Clear)

SLAM ON 👏👏

The reason I’m using the color Q is I have a hard time seeing colors correctly and my wife is not always around to help. So where this machine spits out a number for me is very helpful.
