I'm refilled and ready to start testing/balancing and start my SLAM. However, they're calling for gusty tstorms and downpours this afternoon and evening. I'm guessing I need to wait until after because of the large amounts of rain.

Would some chlorine now be helpful or just wasteful? I have 10% chlorine and some germicidal bleach at 6-some%. I don't want to waste any but I'm worried it'll get worse.

Thoughts?

Hey ChelleSte and Welcome back !!!!

Dose up now, the 'waste' is slim to none. Say you get a whopper of a storm with 4 inches in a 48 inch pool. That's about 8% and if your FC was a 5, the .4 FC loss is hardly measurable.

Thanks, glad to finally be back! These WI winters are so long and depressing 😩😄

That sounds good! Do you mean I should test and balance everything and start the SLAM? Or just put a gallon in and start everything after the storms? Would my other levels (ph, etc) be affected from the storms?

Either way works. I understand you might not want to be out in a monsoon testing/adding every 2-3 hours, but that's a reason to hold off for your comfort, not because the rain will hurt anything.

Only by the appropriate % of water added, which isn't much. Ph might go up a bit from all the raindrops aerating, but then that inch or 2 has a lower Ph of 5 so it will pretty much end where it started.

Get the Ph to 7.2 before you SLAM either way and the rain won't bother anything.

You got this.

Be careful on that “germicidal” bleach. It needs to plain plain plain bleach with no fabric softeners, scents, or other additives. Best to stick with chlorinating liquid unless you’re sure.

Yeah it was the only thing I could find at the end of last season that didn't appear to have any of the additives they're putting in them now. I'll just save them for desperation and stick to the chlorine 😁

How's your SLAM-fu holding up ? Need any refreshers ?
We made it through! My kiddo got hit with a flu bug, then I got hit with it, so it was a crazy last few weeks.

She's still holding strong! Just tested and had an 8.0 pH which I dropped to 7.2, FC of 4.5, CC is 0

Alkalinity is high though at 210! I also realized that I never raised my CYA from the initial 30 I put in, so I need to do that. Should I go to about 60?

Alkalinity will come down as you add acid. No need to push it unless your CSI goes high, which it likely won't unless you have really hard water and are filling often with that. In our climate it's not usually a problem. :)

Gald to hear !!!

Perfecto. Each time you do that, the TA will come down 10. The high TA will probably put you on relatively quick cycles. They are like besties, glued together at the hip . Manage the Ph and the TA will get there on its own.

Sweet !!! 4-6, or more. Never below.

30 should be fine for your climate. Maybe go to 40 when it gets hot out.

Great job (y)

Yay, thank you! She is looking pretty! I was so scared she was going to go back to swampy when I was down, especially with all the rain we've gotten! Here's proof that TFP works! I honestly was so shocked that my levels were so good with being "neglected" while I was couched. Pretty amazing!

She does have a SWG, which to my understanding usually runs better with a higher CYA level. :)
I do! Ty :)
Got my wires crossed. Great catch !!!! 70 CYA it is. Creep up to it so you don't overshoot by a mile.
Will do! Hey, you can't be perfect all the time 🤷‍♀️😁 Ty!
