Hey everyone, as you all know. the price of pool supplies/pumps/filters is on the uptrend. So, as our luck has it. Our pool pump (a cheap amazon knockoff 0.33HP 12 inch sand filter decided to go out on us 2 weeks after we started. So, our grandparents gave us their 1.5HP pump they used for a few years last year. As at the time the pump worked great, so we didn't think much of pulling their pump down. Well, since our's broke it was time to look into a bigger sand filter to pair with the pump. Now the question. We went with a 16" tank that holds 110LBS of sand, and we were wondering if that was too small for a pump of that size. We've heard that the minimum for a 1.5HP pump is 18". So, what do you guys think?

You'll have to find the GPH output rating for the pump and see if it is within the sand filter's specs... My guess is it is overpowered, as we have a 16" sand filter that holds 120lbs of sand and have it paired with a .75hp pump.

If you can provide pics of the pump & filter manfc info (serial/model #'s, etc) , others can help chime in :)
