Do not do that. Pucks are very acidic. The skimmer plastic can get very brittle from being exposed to the highly acidic stew sitting there.

Thanks for the help and advice! Will stop. That explains my nice skimmer handle snapping off. The good news the bucket is empty now and I will not be buying anymore.
 
8:00 am. Woke up to a much less green tint pool water! I have been running pump non-stop. Still not perfect but better. I added two more gallons of LC and plan on continuing to add a gallon every couple of hours today until I get the 871 and can test accurately. At that point the plan is to check FC, get it in line with SLAM ( I’m assuming I am a good bit above slam numbers) and do the OCLT test tonight. Will go from there unless someone has a better plan?
my test goals for tomorrow assuming I pass are
Fc 5-8
cya 60 (now about 30. Have 4 Lbs to add of dry CYA)
ta 50 ( I worked hard to get it down to 50 a couple of years ago to help PH creep)
Ch is 200 now will maybe bump it up. Where do people run there CH with Salt and older plaster?
salt is 3800
ph 7.8
BA -40-50
 
I'd go easy on the chlorine until you can test. You can have too much. 1 gallon of 12% per day day is 5ppm. That will keep things from getting worse.

I doubt very much you'll pass the OCLT tonight if your pool is still green today, even if less green than yesterday.

Get the test chems and follow the SLAM Process.

recieved the 871. Holy Crud. FC was 36! Yes I checked twice.
will let it fall throughout the day with the sun shining.
water is crystal blue.
Will update later today and then do the Overnight.

I haven't read back through this thread to determine if you are using Poolmath app. You should turn on CSI tracking. Plugging your pool water chemistry plan/goals into Poolmath shows a CSI of -0.75 "Less than -0.6 suggests corrosion is likely for plaster, tile, stone and pebble pools"

Will have to eventually raise CH to 350 to get it in-line. Thanks.
right now patiently waiting on the chlorine gas mushroom cloud over my pool to dissipate to normal levels.

Two hours later down to 32. Thankfully Sunny and 80 here today. Water never looked better…… Ha

Update. 5:30 pm. FC 26. Cc non existent. Water looks spectacular!! Will check it around 9:00 pm and log that as my start of OCLT.
Will update in the morning.

7:00 am. Fc - 25. Could have been 25.5. It was 7:00 am and I didn’t have my glasses on 🤪CC - 0 water crystal clear.
I assume I’m done but am obviously still SLAMMING Since the chlorine content is still so high.
I will let it come down on its own and then balance everything.
Thanks to all. It does appear, in my case, that there may be a time frame when perhaps algae is maybe getting started that the water can appear a clear green tint. Either that or I never really had algae and it was just going to take a couple of days for the filter and chlorine to get the water clear. If it was metal in the water would that have maybe also been filtered out to some degree?

Thanks for the help Marty! Either metal could contribute to a green tint? I will check. At what FC point is it oK to swim. I know my kids will ask this afternoon?
 
You can safely swim in a pool as long as the FC is above the minimum and at or below SLAM level based on your CYA. You must also be able to see the bottom of the pool in the deep end of the pool.
