Pentair EasyTouch Questions

Hi all again - So I have pool school Friday but I'm impatient!
The tech did my hot start yesterday and had the system running full speed 24/7. I woke up this morning and the pump was off for some reason. I turned it back on via the panel with no issue but no clue why it shut off?

Also - I can't for the life of me get the globrite lights to change color! I've watched some videos online and it seems simple enough but mine just won't change. From what I saw when you hit "blue" for instance, the relays click and the lights are blue. I get no clicks and no change. Odd thing is when the tech was here he was changing them no problem?

Odd...

Do you have Screenlogic?

@Jimrahbe will be by shortly to tell you how to setup your pump schedule.

Screenlogic2 is an additional add-on that is not standard on the EasyTouch. Remote communications is standard on the IntelliCenter.

Did your pool contract say you were getting EasyTouch and ScreenLogic2?

G,

We need to know exactly what equipment you have.. The easiest thing to do is show us some pics...

Show us a pic of the front panel of your EasyTouch.
Show us a pic of your main pool pump.
Show us a couple of pics of your equipment pad.
Show us a pic of any Pentair remote panel inside your house. (You might not have one)

Hard to say what is going on without any info on what you have, but generally if someone just manually turns on the pump it will only run for 12 hours and then will shut off. You normally don't turn the pump on and off manually, it is usually controlled by a schedule.

Tell us or show us more and we can get you pointed in the right direction.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks guys - no remote panels inside the house. Just an antenna above the main panel outside. The builder told me I would be able to control everything from my phone. Here’s some pics:

G,

Ok, the pcs show that you have a "real" EasyTouch and not one of the "lite" versions, so that is good.

The Pics also show that you have ScreenLogic and should be able to control things with your PC or phone. I like the PC better as it makes more logical sense.

The pics show that you have a saltwater pool, and that the cell's power center is inside the EasyTouch.

And I can tell by the size of your filter that you are in Florida...

Did the tech add the ScreenLogic Protocol Adapter inside your house and connect it to your local network?

When the pump is manually turned on it will run for 12 hours and then shut off. It does this because the default "egg-timer" is set for 12 hours. This can be changed, but you really need to get ScreenLogic up and running first if possible.

To run the pump 24/7, I suggest that you set up a Schedule for the "Pool Circuit" for 8 am until 8 am. This will cause the pump to run 24/7 at whatever speed is assigned to the Pool Circuit.

Setting up the EasyTouch using the little 3" LCD is a pain... Setting up the EasyTouch using your PC is a joy and almost intuitive.

Show me a pic of anything the tech left inside you house.

Also, with the pump running, tell me what the panel's little LCD shows.. And then go look at the pump and tell me what the pump's display shows.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Good morning and thanks!
Nothing inside the house. What you see is what I have. The tech did set up a pool schedule that appears to be 24/7. Pool is still running as of now but I might still be on the 12hr egg timer. Here’s some pics when it’s running.

G,

If the pump was off and started on its own at 8 am, then it should not shut off.

If you pushed the "F" button and that is what started the pump, it will shut off after the egg-timer shuts off.

I suggest that you change the schedule to 8 am until 8 am. Then make sure the pump is off and then let it come on at 8 am by itself.

You can change the speed the pump runs by changing the Speed assigned to the Pool Circuit.

Under Setting, IntelliFlo, Pump #1, speeds. You will see 1/8, 2/8, 3/8 etc. 1/8 means "first of 8 speeds"

Only one speed can be assigned per Circuit. To have other speeds you use Feature Circuits (Name them what you want) and assign a speed to them. For reference here are my speeds in ScreenLogic.

Thanks,

Jim R.

OK - great! I went out and hit the "F" button to shut off the pump and revised the schedule to start back up in a couple minutes. Bingo - it came on by itself! Now I guess it should stay on 24/7. I'm just leaving it as is speed wise because the tech dumped 8 gallons of acid in to start it up Monday and said to let it run wide open. Supposed to be a tech back today to do something else. Pool school happens Friday so I'm hoping that guy has some decent knowledge!

G,

I suggest you listen closely to what he has to say about how your pool equipment should operate.

When he starts talking about chemicals, just nod like you believe what he is saying, and then ignore it all..

Trust TFP when it comes to chemicals. Most pool builders and Pool Stores just want you to spend money on "magic".

Thanks,

Jim R.

Tech just left. He was doing some punch items and what not. Said all I need to do at this point is keep brushing twice a day. He dropped a couple chlorine tabs in the skimmer and tested the ph (still low as expected). Pool school Friday and then he said they'd be back next week to start balancing the chemicals. I'll be ordering the Tf-Pro kit today! On a "bright" note - he fixed the light issue I was having (wouldn't change color). I guess he forgot to do something in the start up programming but now they change like they're supposed to. I'm nervous about where to to start learning on what, when and how to test and add chemicals. I'm assuming there's a good "sticky" thread somewhere that will get me on the right track? I also still need to nail down the volume of my pool. Drawings say 12,800 but everything I can find calculator wise puts me at 20k+!

Os your pump running 24/7?

If not having trichlor tabs in your skimmer is a bad idea. The tabs contain acid and when your pump is off it will put a slug of low pH water through your equipment.

Much better to put tablets in a floater in the pool.
