Leave yourself room on the output side incase you have a issue and need to replace the union. The heater side would be fairly simple to build from scratch if needed.
Test your salt levels with a K-1766 before adding the bags of salt. You might already have a substantial amount of salt in your water already.

Don't buy Clorox pool salt- its been found to be occasionally contaminated with iron. A few pools here have reported stains in their pool after using it.
