Hi All,

I’m looking for some input on the pros/cons between the Intelliflo VS pump vs the Supermax VS pump.

No specific questions aside from asking the main differences which I cannot figure out. Seems the Intelliflo is on back order from my local dealer.

B,

The IntelliFlo is a 3 HP VS pump and the SuperFlo/Max is a smaller 1.5 HP pump.

Other than cost there is never a reason top choose the smaller pump.

The bigger the pump, the slower you can run it, and still move the same amount of water.

If I were to build 10 more pools, they would all have the IntelliFlo.

That said, if you need a pump, and can't get the IntelliFlo, then the SuperFlo VST will work, you will just have to run it a little faster.

I run at 1200 RPM to turn on my SWCG, if I had the SuperFlo VST, my "guess" is that I'd have to run at 1600 RPM, so not a killer by any means. (This assumes you have no heater)

Thanks,

Jim R.

Jim, thank you. You’re always so responsive and thorough. I appreciate your feedback. I do have a heater by the way.

B,

If I had a heater, I'd have to run at 1500 or 1600 RPM to turn on my SWCG. Again, just my "guess", a smaller pump would have to run 1900 or so, to turn on the SWCG.

Heaters add a lot of resistance to water flow.

Wouldn’t there also be differences in automation? The IntelliFlo has an RS485 communication link so that it can be controlled through an EasyTouch/ IntelliCenter controller whereas the SuperFlo simply has contact relays to select which preprogrammed speed the pump runs at. Both have an onboard digital interface for manual control and setup. It may not matter if you don’t plan to ever use automation but I think that’s a huge difference not to be overlooked.

I currently do not have automation, but maybe something one day. I am trying to get my hands on an Intelliflo VS or VSF, but they seem to be backordered everywhere. A shame, because I really wanted to upgrade my pump this year.

Well, if you can find a SuperFlo VSP then I would say that's probably worth it. Waiting around for an IntelliFlo to pop up probably is just spinning your wheels at this point. Given that you live in NY, you're paying pretty high utility rates. If you upgraded to a VSP now, you would not only save money on electricity but you also might get a rebate from your utility for buying the pump (check your electrical utility website to see if they have a rebate program). Your equipment list seems to indicate that you would likely not need the full rated horsepower of an IntelliFlo. Salt water chlorine generators have pretty low flow requirements to activate them (typically a bit more than 15GPM) and you don't indicate a heater or anything else that would require higher horsepower.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

My mistake Joyful. I do have a natural gas heater as well. My local installer wanted to install the Sta-Rite but I’m hesitant with only 3 speed settings and the lesser HP.

Doheny website has the Intelliflo VSF on back order but I spoke to them and has an expected ship date next week. I may take the chance.

By the way, attached is the hog I’m looking to replace.
