Forum changes

Does this forum integrate with the Tapatalk app? I don’t use it a lot but a lot of my younger friends use it to read the forums they belong to. They seem to prefer it on mobile vs reading forums in a web browsers on their devices. It may help you reach some of your goals from your email. Just a thought.
I think it stopped playing well with Tapatalk a few years ago?

Next item I’ve noticed is concerning the “hints” on the feed drop down that lets the user know if there’s new content in a certain feed or not. My initial reaction would be to see if we can disable that notification as I’m one of those people who thrive on having everything checked off. I’ve found myself clicking on a feed just to get rid of the number, and that’s what lead me to ask about having this totally disabled.

The fact that the “hints” only goes up to 10+ makes it worthless and just clutters up the interface. Either make it a real counter, or simply an indicator through color or font that new items exist, or disable it. The current implementation is a visual distraction with little usefulness.

Lee, if you answered this before and I missed it I apologize, but we we ever see a return of the page break in the listings that would say "The following threads have not been updated since your last visit"? I really liked that feature.
I’m not sure just yet. Like the “Mark all as read” I’m gonna let things flow for a few to see what occurs. 👍

A lot of forums, the older style ones anyway suck trying to navigate on mobile. This forum and HomeBrewTalk (the two forums I currently frequent the most) run XenForo and have an easy to use web interface. Been a while since I tried Tapatalk, never really got into it, but at least at the time it seemed like it was just to make forums more mobile friendly. Which again isn’t needed and likely gets in the way if the site has a decent mobile interface like XenForo has.

I tell you what, I can get quite annoyed at changes myself, but then I go stumble on or log back into a forum running software from 10-20 years ago and it’s just so clunky and not user friendly and I really miss the more modern forum software like XenForo. Especially as I spend more time browsing on my phone than my PC these days. So yeah, overall I’m hesitantly hopeful for new updates.

Anyone that remembers the struggles of trying to get a vBulletin forum to be even remotely useful on a mobile device will appreciate all the great features that Xenforo updates offer and would never want to go back to that or Tapatalk. Tapatalk is expensive and very restrictive on what forums can do. It fills a niche for those forum admins that would rather not do all the hard work on the backend to make a web forum look and feel great but that’s not our @Leebo . Lee is our web-monkey extraordinaire and we appreciate all the hard work he puts in on his off hours (he actually does have a real job and family to take care of!). It’s just tweaking that needs to be done at this point so keep sending him suggestions.

And don’t mention the “T-word” … it makes him really really angry and then he starts screaming and throwing poop around his cage …

The key with Tapatalk is the amount of control a website has to hand over in order to get the service to work. To get Tapatalk to work the site must basically allow Tapatalk full access to the server and they're able to make changes at any time without permission. For the most part the changes they make are only to their plugin, but I've seen sites saying the changes they made messed up other items on the site. Additionally they're able to run Ad's and they get a portion of donations made when the donation is made using their App.

I do have a HUGE desire to take TFP and it's content to the App store just as we did with PoolMath, but at the same time it's not in our best interest to hand over too much control.

As for PoolMath............for the last year we've been saying "we're working on stuff" but we keep fading away it seems. I agree Matt, we've got to get an update out there!

I like the new ability to add smell to the posts.

When someone has something that smells, they can now add the smell to the post instead of trying to describe it.

Also, I use different smells to identify and sort different types of posts.

Variable speed pumps smell like cinnamon.

Filters smell like vanilla.

Heaters smell like strawberries.

Chemistry problems smell like fresh baked bread.

SWGs smell like lavender.

It’s a much easier and faster way to find the posts and you know right away what the post is about.

OP : I took a sample to Leslies thanks for advising further

Me : Hooooooooooooo BOY !!! Don’t nobody go in there for 35…….. maybe 45 minutes

There isn’t enough Fabreeze in the world to cover up pool store stench. Sometimes you just got to burn it down and start over ….

I knew this looked familiar. I used to be very active on HomeBrewTalk 5-6 years ago. And yeah, I have had DejaVu since I started here and never got why. I don't even think I remember my username over there anymore, I think I had Iowa in it so I'd probably need to change it anyway. Sad. I am about to sell all of my brewing stuff. Losing that keezer was bad for me... Getting old. Had a few too many with the neighbors a couple of weekends back and I paid for it for three days. So those days are starting to be over for me unfortunately. Good thing I have a pool to lounge by now instead.. at least for a couple more years...I'm going to move when I retire which hopefully will be early...

Having said all that these are some of the best standalone boards there are. Tapatalk was always a problem for me, and not having it aggregate my interests in yet another place online is a good thing that is appreciated. This board is obviously very well run, even if it's said "Tomorrow Oct 13" for the last week. Heck, it still feels like 2019 will never end, so that's completely OK (see my avatar) with me.

even if it's said "Tomorrow Oct 13" for the last week.
So it took me a couple days to realize that it is a persistent announcement. It stays till you click the X then it goes away and doesn’t bother you anymore. I was about to report it as a bug until I realized that. Perhaps they need an announcement about how announcements work now… :ROFLMAO:

Question 🙋‍♀️
Was part of the update making YouTube videos (& maybe others?) posted in threads automatically play? I have noticed this happening recently and it never did it before.

what just happened
font size reduced by half
windows 7, chrome

dont know how but i caused it, ctrl zero fixed it
Ctrl and mouse wheel or Ctrl and +/- zooms on most (all?) browsers. I did not realize Ctrl 0 reset to 100% zoom though, so I learned something new.
