My pump is leaking fairly briskly. I would like to order parts to repair before I take it apart. Suggestions for the usual suspects appreciated!

While the 2nd pic of the motor label would be handy to change a shaft seal (leak inside at the motor), yours appears to be leaking around the seal plate area where the wet & dry ends come together. Your signature shows some general info. Can you tell use which model hayward pump that is? It will help to match-up parts for that specific area.

As Pat said we need model numbers. Short of that I'd say if you're gonna go to the trouble to open it up get a complete set of shaft seals and o-rings. I think inyopools has a kit with all this. Do it soon too. Seal leaks are main cause of motor bearing failures. If you just have an o-ring leak your seal will eventually leak anyway. You can get much longer life out of the motor by changing seals on the pump before they cause a motor failure. Motor bearings can be replaced but it's usually much more difficult and often not worth it so the motor just gets replaced.

Great catch James! They can be hard to confirm. If you're not sure try to flex the plate when you get it off and look for slight movement or get some chalk and rub over the place that looks like it's cracked. See if this highlights the typical jagged crack. If you're lucky you may have a friend that has access to a mag particle tester in a machine shop.

Good suggestion!

I don't think that there is a crack but I will inspect it carefully when I do the repair.

This looks like a crack.
Goodness. How does he see that? What type of wizardry eyesight or software does James use to see these obscure defects in a pic? I need a bigger screen I guess.

I replaced the seal without too much difficultly but the pump is not working very well. I suppose that I could start replacing the bearing and maybe the impeller and other parts but it may be better to just go ahead and upgrade to a variable speed pump.

Is this a good choice?

I think my pool is 9,000 to 10,000 gallons. The pump also powers the spa. Will this work without adding special control electronics?

Thanks for any comments or advice!
