Disco Pool

Day 3 of Self Start-up:
We kept the $450 and been doing our own start-up. Wifey did a great job of putting muriatic acid and brushing the pool. Fill water was at 500 TA and 8.2 pH. Today, 200 TA and 7.5 pH. We’ve been doing the cycle of drop TA until pH goes down to 7 then aerate. Got some fountains and connected them to the returns or ran the spillover and spa blower. To top it off, we dip our feet in the water and do some flutter kicks.

Tonight, we’re going to put our first liquid chlorine. All your tips, suggestions, and helpful comments are being used and we’re hoping to be able to swim by tomorrow or Sunday. We haven’t tested our CYA yet and CH had been within 350ish. I wish we have a brush vacuum without having to use the skimmer because it’s off until our pool school this coming Tuesday.
Thanks again all and thanks in advance for continued support!

Day 4:
CYA added the night before.
TA: 80
pH: 7.2-7.5ish
CH: 450-600ish
Chlorine: 1-3ish
Aside from testing water chemistry, I also tested the water feel. It’s AMAZING! It’s a reall swimming pool. I can get 6-7 strokes as long as I don’t kick off the wall! It felt like fresh clean water! Thanks all for your help!
Since wifey and I aren’t really into dancing, we changed the name of the place into something more appropriate. Check it out :)

That color is really looking great! You pick a great plaster and are doing a good job taking care of it!!! Well done!

BUT did you know you have a bear fishing in your pool?????? LOL That is SO cute!!!
Kim, that bear is our replacement for a rock work. Don’t have the space and money for it so got that one instead. It also serves as a marker for others to know they’re getting to the deeper part of the pool. I was considering those small statues of boys fishing by the pond but they’re too small and found out others use it as a memorial. Wifey and I got a bit freaked out by it so we ended up with the bear.

We also decided to change “Disco Pool” to “Disco Bay Hideaway” since we’re not only naming the pool but also the whole house. We’re only here on weekends since we both teach in The City, thus the name, our hideaway during the weekends.

So here’s my question to you all, what’s your pool or house name? :)

Pool School: PB will teach us how to manage the EP. water looks clear so far. pH is starting to drift up due to the returns on since Thursday. TA is 80 but pH is about 8.
One of my friends thought I was showing him a picture of a zoo. We’ll take it as a compliment to our backyard.

Animal Kingdom, nice! We’ll have more animals too, we’ll be using Big Joe floaters.

that looks great!!!
Thanks, Miguel. Your pool is one of my inspirations. I went back and forth to black onyx, blue granite, or blue surf after my ocean blue fiasco. I think any color would have been nice. The glass beads made it a little bit darker so I like it. Wifey loves it too so happy wife is a happy life! Thanks for being there for me and enjoy what's left of the summer!

I'm a little jealous of the spa...lol, but we probably wouldnt have used it much, with a solar cover, its fairly easy to heat up the pool with our heat pump. With your gas heater...youll heat that pool up FAST!

Your pool is one big spa :) I wish I have a longer swim space but I know if I don't put the spa now, it'll be more expensive to add it next time so we bit the bullet. So interesting how we both have that irregular shape. Mine was due to the setback, I was forced to have that 18" so-called Baja shelf which is too deep for any loungers or chairs since it'll still submerge half of your body while sitting. In any case, though, it'll serve as a mini pool for little ones. I also got the idea of not putting raised walls nor sheer descent as our backyard space is small enough that using both sides is a plus. Now I can put chairs or the loungers on both sides of the pool deck.

I have umbrella sleeves placed on my deck, the problem is, the umbrella I bought is not a cantilever like yours and the poles are not long enough therefore it touches the fence. Do you know any taller umbrellas or even bottom poles I can get so my umbrellas can be higher?

What is your setback to the fence? Ours if 5'. I'm not sure if you remember I have a very similar pool, mine is just a bit more pie shaped. I was having issues with round umbrellas, being a little too large and hanging over the fence. I ended up getting a 10'x7' rectangular market umbrella at home depot. It works perfectly for next to the fence.

I highly HIGHLY recommend the umbrellas I got. They are pricey, but the build quality is great and work even better! The umbrella I have on the tanning ledge is an 8x10, I opted for the taller bottom pole on it, 45" vs 36". The cantilever I got is a 10 x 13! It's massive, but provides a ton of shade! with the two umbrellas, I can cover about 75% of the pool lol! The brand is Treasure Garden, picked them up off a website called Authenteak. I did Sunbrella fabric on them to prevent fading. You can also buy taller bottom poles on Amazon.

Jgc88,
Thanks for the pictures and ideas! Thanks for reminding me about having a fellow narrow pool as well. We're like sister pools including the plaster color. I have a total of 4 umbrella holes, 3 on the deck and one on the Baja shelf. I'm thinking of moving the umbrellas around based on what part needs shade. I'm also thinking of using those umbrellas as poles for my white screen when we decide to project a movie using a Firestick TV and Bluetooth speaker. I'll post pictures whenever I get around to doing it. If I don't get a pole extension, I'll probably buy a squared umbrella. I was already considering buying a half-brella, good thing you're here to share. Thank you!

It is nice seeing a similar pool getting built around the same time we did ours. The super narrow pools are so few and far between. I am so in love with ours. I would absolutely spend the money and do it again. So worth it.

We only did 2 umbrella sleeves and I wish I had done at least 2 more just so I have more options. I love the projector screen idea. I'm really happy with how the rectangular umbrella fits along the fence.
