I have a Sta-Rite SuperMax that has been shutting off only if the flow of the water is to high. My last motor dies so I replaced it with this new one below. I am not sure what is going on, but I even took back a new one and replaced it to no avail. The second one did the same as the first one where after running for a few hours it would just shut off. I touch it and it will burn my hand if I left it there more than a second. I did notice that will my filter was not clean for awhile it would never shut off. With a new filter it shuts off a lot more frequently than before. With that said, I decided to close my intakes a bit to slow that flow of water to the pump and that worked. This seemed to only happen with the sta-rite newer motors. Can someone explain this to me? Did I wire something incorrect or put something together wrong? I know its hard without seeing it, but I am just thinking out loud to see if this has happen to anyone else and could give me a pointer? As mentioned, same issue with two new motors so I did not want to replace it again as I did not think they would have taken it back. Motor is not a year old and works find until I get a new filter and then I have to repeat and close the valves a bit so it will not shut off. The main problem is it I close to much the flow is not enough for the saltwater to generate. Pool is blue and no issues, but I hate having to restrict the flow of water. FYI, Pipes coming to the pump are larger than the pipes leaving the pump to the pool, but that is the way it has always been and I never had the issue with my old motor until it died yearsss later. One more thing is I did go from 1.5 HP to and 2.2 HP which I am hoping is not the issue as my old pump could not keep the pool cleaner moving fast enough.
I personally think I need to check the wiring and or the pump is too strong for my pipes. Water pumps very fast out of the jets if fully open and if I bypass the filter and pump the water in the yard via the backwash line after a few minutes it shuts off even faster.
