Chlorine level differences

Are you going to SLAM due to cloudy water only? Be careful, if your pH is elevated your water can look dull. So be sure the pH is down to 7.2 and well mixed prior to initiating a SLAM.
PH is definitely not high since I've been trying to lower the TA. It was at 7.5 this morning and I added a gallon of 14% acid to get it down to 7. I'll check it again before I add the chlorine to make sure it went down.

What do you mean by am I slamming for cloudy water only? I wrote in my story that I can't keep my FC up and the water gets cloudy whenever anyone swims and asked if I should SLAM. Do you think I shouldn't?

Your pool is pretty new. And algae that quick in the Phoenix area would be odd. I do not see you have done an OCLT.

After all this, with what I suspect is a busy pool with lots of activity, set your SWCG to generate 4 ppm FC per day minimum. And monitor it daily. Test FC just before the SWCG is to turn on each day. And be sure the FC is staying in the upper target range for your CYA.

What does that mean? If my CYA is 60 what should my FC be? 12?
Correct. Raise it up today, test FC after the sun goes down, and then again before the sun rises. You need to run the pump for at least 30 minutes prior to taking a water sample for testing.

If the water is cloudy only when people swim I wouldn’t worry about that. Things come off peoples bodies (mostly sunscreen I think) and can get mixed in the water. If it clears up after people are out for a while and you’re also holding FC overnight which is sounds like you are, your water is ok.

For some reason our chlorine levels have been going down quick, which is probably because we're swimming more and it's getting hotter. Last night I checked and it was 2 so I upped the percent to 60%. As I was checking the pH I decided to use the block tester to see if levels were up and worth testing again. It showed the brightest yellow possible so I tested. It was only at a 3. I get that the block test isn't exact but shouldn't it be closer than that? Am I missing something else? Does that mean my pH isn't correct either? What percentage should I expect to keep my SWG at for the summer? We run the pump from 11pm-11am.
Last season, I ran my vs pump 24/7 & had my swg run the same at about 20-30% at the end for us around October, I turned off the swg & just dumped a gallon or so of LC in every other day or few days once it hit november I pretty much just let it stew until feb unless I get aggravated enough to do something

Then add 10 ppm of CYA, set your SWCG to generate 4 ppm FC per day, and monitor your FC each day before the SWCG turns on for the day. See if your FC is stable. Adjust the SWCG generation as needed.

I’m not sure how to set it to generate that. All I see on the screen is a percentage. What am I missing?60BF7FB6-E980-48EE-8928-D6C5BC8FFA0E.jpeg

In your app, you can use Effects of Adding Chemicals or you can touch the FC value in Overview and use that to calculate how much.

How many hours do you run your SWCG each day? I need that to give you what percentage to set the SWCG to.

For instance, at 100% generation, your IC40 will add 0.4 ppm FC to your pool for each hour you run it. To add 4 ppm each day, the SWCG must be set at 100% for 10 hours each day.

So 12 hours per day.
Set the SWCG to 80% generation for 12 hours.
Test your FC each evening just after sunset. That will be the lowest your FC is each day.
