We're doing this again! Orlando OB Take 2 -PLASTERED! 6/1

What did you end up doing with the lighting layout? How many and what was the spacing? It looks like you have good even coverage, I can't wait to see it once the pool is full.

I had to lay that out for our PB, as our designer did not really want to commit to a layout. And after I had the initial layout, which was easy, I learned a few things about pool construction that forced a change. I'm hoping it comes out ok.
I ended up going with basically what I have in post 13. Spacing is roughly 6'. The gunite crew didn't get the memo, so they had some issues with placement. Fortunately it was a 2-day shoot. I got the only 1 impacted installed after the first day as I noticed it before the gunite was too dry, then they got the other 3 in on the second day. I honestly think 4 lights will be a little over-kill for my pool, but my previous pool didn't have enough light and I would kick myself if I made that mistake again.

Its funny because my inspector today said that I had more transformers than he's ever seen. I have 5 of them because I can control all zones separate. Pool/Spa/Sheer/Bowls/Bubblers. Probably not the most cost effective approach, but I think it will be nice to have that kind of control.

I'm doing four as well, but couldn't get the placement I wanted, due to the spa dam wall. I'll be annoyed if the lighting has issues, but at this point, I'll have no-one to blame but myself.

I would agree with you here. I think it's far easier to have this at the start, than to want it later. I don't have as many "zones", but I will still have pool/bubblers/spa as separate control circuits.

I think you'll be fine, probably overcoming less than optimal placement with the number of lights.

I have some activity on the screen. We're doing an aluminum panel roof along the whole back of our house, that is getting done today, rest of cage likely tomorrow. Could leak into Saturday/Monday but I am hopeful that the bulk of it is done tomorrow.

Safety fence guy has confirmed for Monday. Will post pics of the roof later today when these guys wrap up what they are doing.

On another note, I did put my mobile outdoor kitchen set up to use last night. Greek seasoned chicken for the wife and I.

No pics today, had a snafu and lost my mind. Send me good thoughts tomorrow, I need my screen company to create a miracle... Basically, through bad luck, my screen has a support post that will be in conflict with one of my magic bowls... Could have avoided if my idiot designer (me) had provided some additional thickness in the beam/column or, if the bowls were installed before they measured for the screen. Didn't want to do that to avoid them getting damaged, but when I started piecing it together today, I saw the issue... one bowl is currently sitting in place awaiting their arrival tomorrow.

Ultimately, I need them to cheat the post as far to the back of the column as possible (maybe a smidge more than possible) to allow room for the bowl. Or, come up with another solution for me... OR... we'll have to switch from the square bowls to the round ones which will be a costly mistake and not exactly give us the look we want.

On the bright side, the bowl looks awesome there. Hope it gets to stay!

Sending positive thoughts your way. You’re really closing in there and I can’t wait to see your beautiful pool. Since I am doing square bowls as well, how much room do you have from your bowl pillar to the edge of the pool deck?

This was the first thing I thought of when I thought "how can I send positive thoughts?" Hope it helps!!!! Hopefully everything works!

You need 15" clear behind them... they sit a little out over the pool. I have about 19" to the deck, but there is a 5" post on the screen... If doing it again, I would do 24-30" behind them just for safety. Everything would have worked out fine for me though if that post was 4" over on top of the raised wall instead of down on that column.

Thanks everyone, I am anxiously awaiting the guys showing up so I can talk to them about it. I have work calls basically from 8-830 and 9-11, so I am going to have a short window to get out there and give them guidance.

Well, the verdict is in, and it's not good news. They couldn't do anything with the screen, I am going to have to switch to the round bowls. I feel fortunate that at least those will work. Now on to the mission of finding them and getting them in my hands. Add a couple of square magic bowls to the list of things I have available if anyone needs them. Pewter color.

I feel a little better about it today than last night. At least I know and can adjust. Still really bummed at the mistake more than anything. Round bowls will look great, I actually think I only chose the square ones because they were in stock at the time I ordered. Round will break up all of the other angles in my pool. Not excited about the financial impact, but, this close to the end of my build, I can't really do anything about it. Can't cut somewhere else to make up for it, just have to chalk it up to a learning experience. It's still a fraction of what I would have paid in PB markup if I hired a professional and they were able to anticipate the issue.

OK, end of my little pity party... Screen is going up nicely, hoping they finish today, but I expect it will be tomorrow or Monday. Still, the bulk of it is up and it's looking good!

I also had the City Engineer come out a bit ago and look at my grading, he was happy with it. Can't call in the official inspection until my extra dirt is gone, but at least I can feel good that I'll pass inspection when the time comes.

First off, I am glad you figured out a solution and I think both the square and round are nice options. I’m sure you and the family can’t wait to get in the pool. I assume that once the screen is up you will be ready to put water in and start it up?

Second, I went over your drawing (from the first page), my drawing for my pool and this picture from Pentair and I think I’m good for my future screen, but just wanted to have you look and see what you think. I have 3’ from the back edge of the pool to the edge of the patio and the bowls are 28.5” across. My pillars look like they will be even with the edge of the pool and will be 24x24”. So it looks like I would have 7.5” off the back if the bowls were centered or more if they were offset towards the pool. What do you think?

Honestly, it's a knee jerk reaction, but I think I would try to get some more depth there if you can... Basically, the bowl is 29", maybe 1-2" overhang into the pool, but call it 28" from water's edge. The will start 2" inside your deck, and the post is 5" if it happens to fall in the same way mine does. So, 7" off of your 36" space leaves you with 29"... Not a lot of room for error there. Most likely it would work out with no issues... AND... your bowls will be installed when they are designing the screen, so, they will know they have to work around them. I fully believe if my bowls had been in, they would have put that post in a different spot and I would have been fine. Just bad luck. I was out there last week when they were measuring and they said the "typical" placement put it basically right at the break between my column and the raised wall. If the bowl was there, they would have made a note that it HAD to go on the raised wall. I didn't think anything of it then because I hadn't wrapped my head around how big these bowls are and how close I was going to be to making it work. If you can get them to go another 1' deeper on your setup, I think you'll appreciate not having to stress about it.

For your purposes... I had the bowls sitting there last night and turned the FireFX lights on, looked pretty cool. I know it will be enhanced even more with water in the bowls, but it was a decent visual. Wish I had taken a pic. Also... I know where you can get a great deal on Pewter Bowls if you want to switch up your colors... ;)

Looking good. Too bad about the oops. I know that feeling though. Nobody but you, and us following, will ever know it was supposed to be any different. It will still look fantastic. Just not exactly what you had in your brain. And when you start thinking about it is about the time to crack open a cold beverage!

The more it gets put together..... the more water, floats, patio furniture, plants etc get put around.... it becomes almost impossible to focus on one thing. Every last build on here, at each stage, the little details of that stage are oh-so-critical at that moment. Once it’s all done..... the tile pattern really doesn’t matter. They’re gorgeous. Every last one of them.

Ok, picked up my new round bowls yesterday, worked on digging trenches for irrigation until 1030 last night. Got the new irrigation lines in today, still have some adjustments on spray patterns and a couple of broken sprinklers to replace, but feel good getting that done.

Screen guys will finish tomorrow, I have my safety fence going in tomorrow as well, hopefully passing inspections on Tuesday, then surface! I have been on their schedule for this week, but who knows if they will actually get to me this week or not. I suspect they won't, but maybe I'll get lucky.

Also waiting on all of the extra dirt to go away so I can get my grading inspection and get sod ordered. Going to be doing that install myself as well, hoping to have the long weekend next weekend to get it done. No confirmation other than 'shooting for this week' from the excavation company.

Busy week ahead hopefully.

Awesome....I don't want to know the total sod I'm going to need to fix my yard.
My yard was a work in progress anyway, and is a decent size. I'll be doing just the disturbed areas now, and hoping I can nurse the rest back to life. The previous owner didn't feel like making minor irrigation fixes, so a whole section of the yard I think just wasn't irrigated for years. I'm dealing with that now and hopefully will get some actual grass going.

I am planning on about 2400sf of sod and installing myself, will be another long weekend when I get to that point.

Everything worked out yesterday, I am on track for inspection today. Of course, I have a ton of work calls, so I hope the inspector comes at a time when I can run out there and discuss with him. Otherwise, the wife will be left to sweet talk him into approvals. Same inspector I have had all the way through though and he's been awesome. I talked to the plaster company yesterday, if approved, they will do the cleanout tomorrow and "try" to get it shot this week!
