First time pool owner

Agree with Marty.

Also, order a TFT test kit. We use the Pool Math app, TFT kit and the Pool Water Chemistry and have no problems. If your pool stores are anything like ours, it will be more difficult to upkeep with their suggestions than using the documentation provided on this site.

Is chemistry your main concern or are there structural / equipment considerations?

I ordered Taylor K2006 yesterday based on Reddit threads. I am setting up the pool math app. I have been reading up on how pools work, I had no idea about anything related to pools 2 days back, now I figuring out all the broken parts.

My goals are to immediately fix anything which will cause more damage. My current concern is to fix high filter pressure and one of the skimmers doesn't seem to have enough suction. The skimmer caps, baskets are wrong size or broken, so I am trying to identify them to order correct replacement.

Great. Do be aware that the reagents for the FAS-DPD (R0870 and R0871) plus the CYA reagent will run out really quickly. So be prepared to buy more of those soon. The K2006C or TF100 is a better value.

Have you had a chance to check the filter to see if it needs to be cleaned or replaced? How high is the pressure?

I have the same DE filter system and learned from watching vids on YTube how to disassemble, clean, reinstall and recharge the system with DE. You can also hire a local pro and have it done the first time, but watch and learn. Consider upgrading your broken pool cleaner with a robot, yes its pricey but it's a major improvement. Welcome to TFP this place is a gold mine for pool owners.

Yes my pad has the discharge pipe that is to be directed with a lay flat hose, but I do not backwash my DE filter grids, ever. When my filter pressure rises much above 20% of the baseline of a cleaned filter running at the same rpm, then I clean the grids. This averages once a year for my system. Last season due to the months long CA wildfires, it required two cleanings, one to remove the filtered ash . I also use hair nets over my skimmer filter basket and also run a robot with fine pleated filters as needed throughout the year.
