I vacuumed my pool to filter, turned off pump, backwashed till clear, rinsed until clear then turned back to filter only to see dirt return to the pool. Why is this happening?

If it’s truly sand then it’s two possible causes, a broken lateral (s) or a broke spider gasket.

Curious, how old is your filter? You might try to capture some of the stuff blowing back from the returns. Place a nylon or sock over a return jet if you can next time you vacuum. Dirt will probably blow-out soft, but sand will be gritty. One other thing that helped some owners, even though you rinsed until clear, give it another 20-30 seconds from that point. See if that helps.
Thanks will try. My filter is less than a year old. I think maybe rinsing a Lil longer may help. When I turn filter back on it comes out clear then has a burst of dirt then back to clear
