Can't seem to shake the Algae

Looking for some algae advice. My Chlorine 33,000-gallon pool's DE filter went down about a week ago. One of the grids had a golf ball size hole that was causing havoc.

No matter what I through at the algae, shock, Green to blue, and so on, nothing seems to get it corrected.

Every time I go to my local pool supplies store (Leslies) it seems like I'm spending $200+ with little results. I am kind of at standstill and don't know how to move forward.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!
You need to follow the SLAM Process. To do that, you need a proper test kit. I suggest the TF100. A proper test kit is needed to get the accurate water chemistry results needed to follow the TFP protocols.

While you are waiting on your test kit, add 5 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine / plain bleach to your pool each evening with the pump running. This will replenish the FC lost each day to the sun and also inhibit any algae in the water from growing further.

Try a Phosphate remover. Like phosfree or there is a good one from Orenda. That was the only thing that worked for me. Algae eats phosphorus, if it has no food to eat, then it dies. Using boric acid after you get the pool clear will then help prevent algae as long as you keep your free Chlorine correct.

Oh lordie, lordie! GREEN TO BLUE is nothing but ammonia. That's gonna chew thru any chlorine added to the pool until enough has been added for it to decompose (so to speak).

A few folks who choose to bother with phosphates (and I repeat, FEW do) have learned that PhosFree is a watered down product and they never waste their money on it. If they're going to do it they at least buy a quality product such as the Orenda.
