Crack in return line

Hi there,
I’ve attached a picture of a crack in one of my returns. The leak is pretty bad. How would you go about repairing this? Do we have to replace the liner to fix this? Would it be possible to have the inlet glued, or could I use a coupler to seal it? I’m also trying to figure out which brand/model of inlet this is.
Thanks

Welcome to TFP.

That crack is in an ugly place. But considering you can get into the back of the pool I think you should replace it.

Let's see what @jimmythegreek says.

Since you are able to get to the backside of the fitting, I would try to replace it.

However, if you don't want to replace it, is this your only return? If you have others, can you shut off the water supply to this return only? And then put a PVC threaded plug (with enough pipe tape to seal) in from the pool side to seal it? (EDIT: Just looked at the pics again, and I don't know if you could get it to seal. Would likely have to silicone it also and even then I don't know if it would seal 100%.)

Another option is the franken-fitting: Leaking Return Fittings – A Common Problem | Leak Tools – Blog. This should still allow some water to flow through this return, although it will throttle it down a fair bit simply because the hole through the center is so small.

Thank you everyone.
The return inlet is quite accessible
I just need to figure out which brand of inlet I need to buy.
I might get a company out here to sell me a replacement inlet and install it because I’m worried about the liner slipping when I remove it and because all of the stores are closed here due to Covid-19.

Probably lots of options, but looks similar to Hayward SP1408:
Hayward SP1408 Inlet Fitting with Gaskets and Screws | Pool Supplies Canada

I see you are in Ottawa. I've ordered from poolsuppliescanada before and had very good service up here. Was either fedex or ups (I can't remember) direct to my door. Considering I live on a farm and rarely get companies wanting to deliver off pavement, I was pleased! Usually 3-5 days.

You would have to pop liner out to remove and install new one so that's the big issue. I see you have poly pipe, the best way when you re install is 2 hose clamps 180 degrees opposite on clamps back to back
Ah, I see. So I would have to replace the liner. There’s no chance we could just peel the liner back and if it gets damaged, apply some kind of patch or sealant?

I don’t think Jimmy said the liner needed to be replaced. You need to loosen enough of the liner to get in between the liner and the wall. That will require draining the water down.

Thank you. It was somewhat ambiguous the way it was worded so I chose to go with the most pessimistic reading! Haha.

The hose clamps are kind of hard to access because they are in opposite directions. And I’m a little concerned that the elbow will be pretty stuck in there. But it seems potentially do-able.

I think your biggest challenge will be not losing alignment of the liner holes during the operation.

You lower the water amd pop bead out of track. I use 2 ridgid foam strips to keep liner away. Sawzall the backside right off. Undo hose clamps. Replace fitting amd tighten. Resecure liner amd line up holes. Plumgers help, I use cheap harbor freight suction cup glass grips. Thread on the right mpt x barb elbow fitting amd reattach poly hose.
