IG Pool Completed ✔️ Build Thread 📸 FINAL THOUGHT

Looking good! Tankers, huh? Takes the wind out of my meter-trick suggestion. But you can still make use of it if the tanker company can give you reasonably accurate estimates of the water they dump. Use the meter trick to calculate what water you use to top off the pool and spa, and then add that to the tanker water estimate to get your total water volume. It'll be close enough for chemical dosing calculations, and much closer than trying to figure out the water volume from dimensions.

Pool and deck are already looking fantastic. Congrat's! Looking forward to the next set of pics.

Thanks Dirk
PB giving us some discount as each water truck carries 7k gallons so they said they can provide almost exact gallons to fill line.

after the delays, we honestly just wanted the water in, equipment fired up and start the 30 day burn in period.

we’ve had a ton of rain here on/off these past 6 weeks and so far, the deck seems really solid - hoping all of the gravel base and drainage will do the trick.

Appreciate all of your help along the way 👍

Finally! Seems like yours has taken forever. Can't wait to see the final product.
forever and then some - month 8 !
Not your typical build and yard and appreciate all of the challenges we encountered but that along with delays with subs, Gunite and weather all made it feel like a lot longer than it should have been. Wasn't to worried about the delays over the winter, so long as it is firing up now and come mid April will be ready for the Spring. We will soon forget the build and hopefully just enjoy new memories as a family.

PebbleSheen Prism Blue done
Water filled (~23k gallons)
Equipment fired up

Spa spill over is perfect - the sheer over clears the wall (many thought it would be a trickle due to oversized width and height) and the sound is just right even with a 4ft drop. The sheer decent was a good add and the sun shelf bubblers will be good for the kiddos.
Surprised just how quiet the 2 pumps run (that’s a good thing)

Love the Prism Blue color as we will see how the color settles in over coming days.

Will post final pics once we get the punch list done and sod installed.

thanks to @ncpoolguy for letting me come by his house to view Prism in person

the tree planter bed, the pump/pvc will be removed as that was temporary as we were pulling water from under the pool - we plan to install TN river rock in this bed and around back of pool wall perimeter.

Ugh, I can't even look at my pool this morning. Thanks a lot... :(

The sheers are beautiful. I really like the way everything just blends into and supports the scene behind. I could have written the following post about your pool:

Congratulations!

Dirk, I can’t thank you enough. Your time and expertise was appreciated throughout. I’ll be a fixture moving forward on this site so I can continue to learn, I’m sure I will deal with issues here and there and then help others where I can.

It’s been about 6 days since fill and start up. We have been brushing 2X a day. Let me say this, after 2 days of that I ordered the Wall Whale brush. It’s a lot easier for the walls, but find myself switching out to a normal brush for the floor. Maybe I haven’t figured out the trick to use it for both.

having a bit of fun with the LED colors - due to the darker pebble color think I like the purple, blue and white the best.

still a small punch list left and sod is going in next week fingers 🤞

trying to figure out what to do about audio. We have whole house audio (about 6 zones), with 2 ceiling speakers under covered patio, but sound doesn’t carry well to pool area. I wonder how I can install outdoor speakers that face outward and tie into that zone - hmmm

any thoughts ?

Two.

Physics determines how well light travels through water. The reason everything looks blue under the ocean is because the blue portion of the light spectrum travels the best. Red is the worst. Worst to best:
Red --> Orange --> Yellow --> Green --> Blue
And while the "darkness" of your tile doesn't have anything to do with that aspect, it's not reflecting light as well as a lighter color would, so it's not helping either. This is also why your top step looks grey, your shallow end bluer, and the deep end the bluest.

But I like not only the variety of color of my LED light, but also the variety of brightness. I'll use white for watching the kids, and blues and greens for ambient light while sitting around the pool, and red for all my underwater covert missions.

And...

I didn't do much for outdoor speakers. The bass isn't great, as expected. I made one mistake, which I fixed, and live with the rest. But you can do better than I did.

I first placed my speakers under the eves and pointing at the pool. I figured the speakers would be best protected under there. But where we sit most often is right in between the speakers and pool. I also figured that made sense, so that we could hear the music best. Too best! Almost to a person guests would ask me to turn the music down! Each wanting to hear each other more than Abba, uh, I mean Led Zeppelin. So I moved the speakers towards the pool and attached them to the edge of the patio overhang, now pointing at the pool with the table area behind. So now I can hear the music better in the water, and less at the table.

If I could, I would add more speakers in the landscaping, and point those at the pool, too. More, smaller speakers will get you better coverage in the yard than two big monsters. Two biggun's might sound better, but between guests and neighbors you might not be able to ever crank them enough to find out. If you only want to hear music, go big. If you want more coverage and more like background music, go more and smaller (and keep your neighbors happy). And if you're into bass they make woofers disguised as various things (like rocks) that you can also put in the landscaping that supposedly will shake things up (literally). Some you actually bury. Google "outdoor subwoofer" and you'll see what I mean.

Have fun with your new toys! Congrat's on the pool, it looks great (whatever color you use)!!

The wall whale is awesome! I just wish there was a smaller one for the spa. I don't have a problem with it on the floor. It just continues from the wall to the floor without any issue.

hmmm, when i try to push it on the floor, I can but it takes more force maybe because I have the fin on the lowest setting. I'll try again tomorrow as I am am getting lots of brushing practice.

do you have any experience with the skimmer vortex baskets I see advertised ?

thanks for all the explanation - definitely like the color and mood lighting and can absolutely see the benefit of the white when kids are in their in the dark..

audio.....I've seen a few options that are 4-8 speakers and they look like landscape lights - stake them in the ground - they seem to get really good reviews maybe for the reasons you mentioned. I'll look more into that and let you know where I land. Wiring everything up to a receiver is likely where I will need some professional help.

19 pallets of sod coming Tuesday as I am sure our neighbors are just as excited as we are to not be looking at mud soon.

I'll echo what Dirk said with regard to lots of small speakers if you are looking for a background music feel. At one of my friends' house, they installed many small speakers around their pool and you can hear the music great at a very low volume, making it easy to still hear everything else going on around the pool. I recommend that type of setup just from how well it worked for him.

Yes, you did a much better job of describing what I was getting at. If you like to blast music, you really only need a few big speakers to cover a yard. But it you want to hear music at a low volume everywhere in your yard, you need more speakers. It's counter-intuitive...

And then there's hooking them up, as Riddler mentions. This is where I get a little lost, too. Because you have to consider ohms and watts and make sure you have a receiver that can deliver the goods... Fortunately there are plenty of pros that will know how to make it all happen. You just have to find a trustworthy one that won't try to sell you a bunch of stuff you don't need. You know, same as everything else...

I have it on the setting it came on. I think that's the middle.

No, I don't know what those are.

Sod installed (23 pallets - whoa) & 4 tons of TN River Rock for treed bed and behind pool wall

Pretty much finished - few left over items like cutting 2 flagstone skimmer lids, installing a few more actuators. Fence repair occurring this week then final inspection.

Pool school Thursday and hopefully soon firing up the Heater and begin using Robot. We’ve had a lot of rain here in NC these past few days and drainage seems to be doing well, no water coming onto deck
